Before I bought my XRS, I owned an 04 Sentra SE-R Spec V. I am convinced that my XRS will completely dog the spec v, but everyoen else thinks Im crazy. So let me go into some background.
When I had my Spec V, the best I ran was a 10.2 in the 1/8th and 15.7 in the 1/4 mile. I ran neck and neck with my friends 2000 Civic Si,.. could never pull on him, and he never pulled on me,... dead even.
Now, in my XRS, I ran a 15.1 at 90mph 3 weeks ago at the track, my buddy's civic ran a 15.5 and on the way home from the track, i pulled hard on my friends Civic from a 60mph all the way up to 120, completely smoking him thru lift.
I am correct in saying that the SPec V cannot hold a candle to the XRS right???
Anyone else have any feedback? This is driving me nuts.

Well, My Spec didnt even take a Civic Si off the line, and its got tons of torque on the Civic too.... They were Neck and Neck from Dead stop up thru 4th gear... and my XRS pulls that civic untill hes reading my licence plate, so I dont know about the Spec's extra Torque being a problem.
I just dont think the Spec can hang with it, after owning both, but people swear Im wrong. Thats why I wanted the objective view.

Very nice Corolla. I notice that you put a cold air intake on your XRS. I was thinking about putting one on too. What performance improvements have you noticed? Did you notice a decrease on gas mileage?
I agree...usually track races are 1 vs 1 so there's the element of driver skill to consider. So if you've tested both individually and consistently the XRS came out ahead at the 1/4 mile then I'd go with that.
And I concur with your 15.1 time. I know a certain XRS that clocked 15.1 at the track in April although it did have a CAI.
YES I hit LIFT today. 3 times. And love it every time. Kind of funny...I know it only goes 0-60 at best 7.1 but shit its fun. When the heck is TRD coming out with a CAI for the 05 rolla xrs? I understand the Injen CAI is a good way to go but I want to keep my warranty.

Honestly, with all my mods heres what I noticed.
CAI - Gave the engine a very sweet sound. Hitting lift will give you a boner. I noticed lift seemed to engage a LOT HARDER! Slamming me back in my seat harder. Gas mileage did not go down, but thats because I drive very modestly. When I get on it or hit lift you can almost see the gas needle drop. I was on a trip to VA Beach Last week, and Drove 356 miles on 1 tank of gas. (only 5500 miles on car so far)
AEM Pullies - absolutly no improvments. some people told me it would be an acceleration gain, but my 60ft time did not improve and neither did my 0-60mph time.
Short Shifter - LOVE IT! Took .3 off my 0-60 time and it begs to be ripped thru the gears. It shifts very very rough, like a true sports car. You really have to man handle it. Highly recommend the TWM performance shifter to anyone that wants to get a short throw.
Greddy Evo SP2 catback exhaust - It was kinda tricky to instal because the exhaust was for the 03 trix xrs, so we have to fabricate a few peices to hook to the cat and such, but it has a very nice desireable sound. Again, not a real big performance gain, but I do think it does something.
Springs & Grill - Just make the car look so much better. The 1 thing I hated about my 03 rolla S and the same with the 05 XRS is that it sits WAY to high off the ground. I love being low,.. I dropped it 2.5 inches and it just looks and feels better. Doesnt roll as much into curves either. I recommend the springs to ANYONE that wants to make the rolla feel more sporty on the road. The grill was just a spur of the moment thing. I debadged the car except for that XRS symbol on the front, so it has a nice clean look.

Thanks for the reply Robert. I was thinking about lowering my XRS too but I'm not sure I want to worry about sratching my front on everything. What do you guys think about lowering an inch with the TRD springs? Anyone do that or seen it? I've been toying with that idea while waiting for TRD to come out with a CAI.

Actually 2.5 inches didnt lower it enough to scratch. I have never lowered a car before, and Im not used to parking far away from the lip of the curb, and so far I havent found a curb big enough to scratch the bumber. That corolla sits massivly high.
Just a little update, I had a chance to own a Spec V yesterday. Im normally not into street racing, but with all the doubt I had in my mind I just had to do it. Keep in mind that this is not my normal behavior, and I dont endorse or condone illegal street racing. In this particular story, I was only over the speed limit for maybe 4-5 seconds, just long enough to pass this kid that thought he was something (and because it was a personal vengeful thing)
(/insert Kill story here)
Im on my way home from work. Highway 70 west in eastern NC, speed limit opens to 70mph. After riding along side this ricer civic kid (it was a DX with lowering springs and a huge tach) that wasnt worth my time, I pull up to the very last red light in town, before the long 17 mile stretch to the house. I wasnt paying attention the first few seconds, but then I realized that there is a 2004 Black Sentra SE-R Spec V (very bone stock) sitting right in front of me. Driver had a scruffy beard and a #8 Racing Hat (Earnheart??) He pulls out of the red light nice and slow, but when he shifts to second gear he nails it and his tires bark. Im still in first about 5000, so I nail it, hit lift, and its on! It was a very un-impressive race.... by the end of 2nd I was eating his bumper, and by the end of third he was reading my licence plate, which says GETNLINE.
All in all, bone stock SE-R Spec V's are horrible, regardless of the fact that they have 175hp and 170ft lbs of torque. They are geared so short that you cant take any advantage of the power untill the race is already over.
I feel so much better.

Great story! I like. Just for reference sake. I drive a 1989 Nissan 240SX, and it's bone freakin stock. I raced a 2004 Spec-V the other day, and pulled him by probably 2 car lengths. So if I can pull him in a bone stock 240SX, I think it should be pretty well decided that you should be able to beat them quite easily. However, I did spank the pants off of an 05 Rolla S yesterday. I mean it was REALLY BAD! I pulled on him as soon as the light hit and just yanked him until I hit 65 and at that point he was about 4-5 car lengths behind. I don't know how big a difference there is between the Rolla S and the XRS, but I'm pretty sure it's significant enough. The Spec-V does definitely have more torque, but from what I hear the XRS is a pretty freakin quick machine. So I wouldn't be surprised if you were able to pull on them.
