AE86 Engine Swap

Hey Everyone,
New to the board. I love Toyotas!
I have an AE86 corolla hatch back SR5 , so i want to change the engine. I want to install the 4A-GE 20V motor, but do you think it will fit in the engine bay? Thanks in advance.

wow.. that would be alot of work..

20v requires you to hammer a hole in the firewall.. start off by locating a complete 20v harness and ecu for mt, then go for it.... those things are hard to locate nuff, unless of course, you're gonna run a stand alone ecu.. goto www.club4ag.com to read more before deciding whether you wanna go ahead with such a project or not

Hanging out at the shops I found out that a 20V isn't as hard as it seems to be, compared to swapping in something like a 4AGZE.

Best to read the reference section of www.club4ag.com first to understand what's involved. And if you need a shop, I can refer you to a few.

First, make sure you have lots of money. Then make sure your car is in real good condition. Then pay someone to try and figure it out cuz I think a 20V in an AE86 in Ontario is rare and not many people will know what's involved. Good luck.

4A-GZE

Haha, thanks everyone for the posts. If i can get it done it would be fun to meet. I know a mountain around here... hehe

4A-GZE? I haven't heard of that engine before (living under a rock), how much better is it than a 4A-GE 20 V motor?
I will try to find a shop soon up here, i just moved here (Bay Area). The car parts places around oakland are so ghetto!!!! I gotta find a place in San Francisco maybe, just a pain to drive over that bridge. Well, thanks for the inputs again. As soon as i get more word from a car shop, i'll keep you guys informed.

i think you need to go read the reference section at www.club4ag.com

the swap involves more than you probably realize, especially since you are putting it into an sr5..

and if you're in the bay area, you should be able to find some people who know about this stuff..

again, go to club4ag, lots of guys on there are from socal..

Just Contacted a Shop

I just got off the phone with a handy man i know, and he says that it's been done before, and he has performed the swap himself! He also tells me he has a 20V motor ready for swap, including ECU, etc.
He says everything installed, ready to go, will cost around 1800 dollars.
I am excited! =)
I will meet up with him soon!

Thanks

Thanks!
I hope it all goes smoothly, after the swap, i'll also need to get wheels. I was just wondering what everyone thinks the best size rims to get for an 86. I was looking at the stock wheels and they look like a nice size for the car. I am guessing they are 15's. If so i'll probably look for 15s to go on it, what does everyone else have?
