First oil change for 2005 Corolla

When should I do the first oil change on my 2005 corolla? Currently it has 5300 kms and my understanding is - I should change the oil every 5000 kms.

But the sales person said that with this new models - I don't have to change oil until it hits 8000 kms.

Can anyone confirm please?

Check your owner's manual and follow that.

Newer cars use newer car formula. 5000k miles. Someone do the KM conversion, but it will be quite a bit more km's than miles.

Oil changes take about ten minutes on these cars. I just changed the oil on my 05 corolla at 400 miles. The oil looked so clean until you took the pan out in the sunshine and looked at all that shiny aluminum specs floating around in it. I would never run any type oil in my car longer than 3000 miles after breakin which would equate out to around 5000 Km. Oil is the life blood or your car and is so easy to change and if you do it yourself costs very little. I believe that any oil that meets manufaturer specs is good to use as long as you change it out frequently along with the filter.

The dealer changed the oil and filter at 1000 miles.
In about 30 minutes I'm going to get out the Rhino Ramps and do a oil change with Mobil 1 and a Wix filter at 5200 miles.
Also will use 10w30 in the warm months and 5w30 in the cold months.
I'll keep this oil in till Nov and from there do my usual all my vehicles Nov and Apr changes with Mobil 1 and Wix filters(Napa Gold).
Adding a Fumoto drain plug for ease of draining and also no wrench or washers needed.
Been using Fumoto plugs for 15 years.
Just my .02

As I was reading some other reviews - some said that the construction of Fumoto plug interferes with the oil pan. As a result, one side of the plug keeps on hitting as you try to tighten it... is it true?

Actually that's not true but like I said in my "speaking of oil changes" thread...

I've used the Fumoto quick drain plug in all my vehicles.
I'm not going to use it on the '05 Corolla.
I changed my oil yesterday and installed it.
Too it off.
It sticks out a little too much past the pan.
I'm afraid the wife or myself may run over something and that something may hit the Fumoto and rip it off.
A very remote possibility but one just the same.
The Fram quick drain would be much less of a risk as it wouldn't be exposed as much but I will just stay with the plug.
Besides I just ordered 10 Toyota drain plug washers online for $1.50 ea.

Thanks Joe B - I'll be using Fram drain plug. I saw it also in local parts store and it looks pretty decent... As you mentioned, it has a less chance of being hit by something...

Would you happen to remember off hand - what model of Fram drain plug you used for your 2005 Corolla? I went to 3 part stores today and none of them knew...

I went to Frams website and that particular page is down... I was hoping to get the oil change over the weekend...

I never used a Fram quick drain plug.
Go to the bobistheoilguy sitea nd ask for a number.
Great info site on oil, filters etc.

Here's a pic from that site of a corolla with a Fram plug.
Still sticks out a bit too much for me.

Remember to keep your reciepts for the oil you used to do your changes and the reciepts if you get them done somewhere else. If anything were to happen to your engine under powertrain warranty, that's the first thing they are going to ask for.
