Air Cond stopped cooling

Air Conditioning - 95 Corolla Wagon - 160K miles Hi, this is my first post, car has run well for 10 years and just today (in 90 degree heat) the air conditioning just stopped cooling. Appears that the compressor still runs, when I shut of the AC button the engine idle goes down slightly and when I turn it back on the idle goes back up slighty (as noticed on the tach - it is manual transmission) Any ideas of things I might be able to do to further diagnose what the problem really is. Thanks alot!!

Circuit breaker, fuse, or no freon.

It sounds like your compressor is turning on. You might be low on freon/refrigerant.

Theres bound to be some leakage after 10 years and 100K+ miles. If the compressor is running then its more likely you just need to add a little more freon.

now we're assuming here that there are no leaks in ur vents or door seals that can allow hot air from outside to come in right

with a/c on, ur revs are actually supposed to raise a bit, not drop....there's a device called a "step up" that's supposed to open throttle slightly to compensate for the extra load the compressor adds to the engine

if that's fine, then get ur gas pressure tested, there's a high side that's supposed to read between 200 and 250psi and then there's a low side that's supposed to read 35-45psi....with a properly working compressor spinning at 900~1100rpm that's what u're supposed to get

but if ur revs are too low, the high side drops to under 200psi and the low side might raise to 60psi and up...this is not a good thing and can break ur lines at almost any point in the system...check ur step-up first, then the gas pressure and if all else is fine, then u're prolly in the market for a compressor

1st get the system tested for leaks

2nd if no leaks, then get the coolant recharged.
