SR5/GTS Sunroof assembly
Well I finally got to the bottom of my sunroof problems. On my 89 SR5 my sunroof was in-op and the panel was drooping on the drivers side rear. It was not leaking water. Turns out that a fellow only 2 miles away was wrecking an 88 GTS sunroof car. Well I went to look at it, and low and behold, same droop on the left rear of the panel. I was told by the fellow that the sunroof opened and closed, but there was no way to test it as the car had been dis-assembled beyond testing it. After removing it(quite a job at the best of times, and a real challenge with a cast on my left leg from toes to 6" above my knee). Anyways I got it out and apart and sure enough the left side cable has broken, and this is why it was drooping on the left side like mine. I must say, it is a no small task to remove & re-install one of these sunroof assembly's. Fortunately both sunroofs were black, and his had no rust so I paid him $50 Cdn for everything. Then I called the dealer and got him to order a left side cable. I'll clean this extra operator up and install the new cable into it, get it all lubed up and operating/sliding freely. I'll post pics of the job as I get at it, there must be several cars out there with a similar problem, as most cars I looked at when buying this one had a sunroof that was not opening, and an owner who said I just leave the sunroof closed........dwr
