20v --> squeaky sound when revv'd.....dangerous?

I've just had a fresh 20v swap. Everything works, the car runs/starts nicely, has a semi-rough idle, i think because of the distributor (crack cap?)

In any case i'm worried about a VERY LOUD squaking sound the car makes when its revved above 1000rpm and below 3000rpm. It first started when the roads got wet and now its just there. i opened the hood and it seems to be coming from the passenger side of the engine...probably towards the front. What can it be? alternator dying?

^sound goes away once i'm past first gear. (rev'd over 3k and moving)

I lost my power steering tensioner pulley in the highway, took the belt and so i have no power steering right now, wondering if there's a way to run a belt from the crank to the p/s pump directly.

heh, its not that big of a deal, two words and two mins, you need to tighten the belt by prying the alternator out a bit with a crowbar, etc. Alternator dying wont really make a whine, it will just not charge enough.

Just don't make it to tight, or you will toast the front bearing on the alt.

got it.

i just tighten a bit the tensioner pulley he sector b/ the alt and the water pump is still kinda loose, but it made the belt sector b/ the alt and the crank tight.

and yup, its the belt. i'ma play around and see how to tighten this...i dun have a crowbar or something i can use as one

That semi-rough idle your talking about is the probably Idle Speed Controler located just below the throttle bodies on the intake side. I had the same problem. It's because they have been sitting doing nothing for so long. Unfortunately the part costs $800 from a dealer, but there is good news - you can pick one up off of a later model 4A-FE for next to nothing, because the wreckers dont know how much they are really worth.

Is it still rough at high rev's? If it is, then clean your dizzy cap and look for cracks.

*Edit*: the part number starts with 22270 too.
