DENSO which is OEM on Toyotas or NGK which is almost just as good.. don't go with BOSCH or Champion, they're usually not the greatest. I've been using NGK Platinums on my car and have no complaints yet, but I think I'll go with Denso's next time.

Well some places do sell Denso, dealerships have them too. Wires aren't made by Denso though.. I forget who makes OEM wires but I would stick to those.. last time I bought those NIEHOFF wires that were actually worth about the same as stock wires, they were so crappy. I tried to take a wire off one of the plugs and the metal piece came off and was still stuck to the plug while the rubber piece was in my hand.

Denso and NGK plugs will work fine. Denso plugs for my 2.2l Camry were $6-7 ea at Autozone. Napa has NGK plugs for about twice as much. I don't know if your car uses the same plugs though.

You can get some NGK wires for fairly cheap. The NGK wires for my car were like $35 shipped from sparkplugs.com. They were the same size as the stock wires. Only difference I could see was the wires were blue rather than black.

BTW, I thought the 97 Corolla had a 1.8l engine...the 7AFE

That's it.. Sumitomo! thanks Flashmn! I knew you were useful for something.

NGK plugs are cheap you can get the cheap ones here in Canada for like $5-6 a pair, and the Platinums are like $12 a pair at Canadian Tire. Only reason I go with NGK all the time is because they're readily available everywhere for cheap, as opposed to Densos which are only available at the dealership and very select stores.

NGK's work better than denso if you flood them... Densos dont survive all the time.

more than the type of plugs i would look for one that have the correct temperature range. i've taken out my plugs last week and from what i could see they were overly too hot for the car. i bought my new plugs from toyota after a discussion with the parts guy. i ended up buying some denso u groove for $1.39 a piece and they work great. since these are so cheap i will be changing them out very often. another thing is that don't don't really need to go platium they generally run very hot unless your car is more performance, but being that you have a corolla, don't spend so much plugs not suited or overkill for your car.

Of course he's gonna get the right temp range! that's a given. If you go to an autoparts store they either A: have a book in the sparkplug aisle that shows all the makes and models and their corresponding plugs (regular, platinum, iridium, etc.) OR B: you can ask the parts counter people to look it up on the computer and get you the right ones.

You got colder plugs for a _stock_ engine?.... erm.. You dont need colder plugs unless you go forced induction and even then its a test first and then choose. Looking at the plugs wont tell you if they are too hot.
Too hot = detonation, Too cold = fouled plugs... and its not an easy thing to determine.
Easiest way to go about it is, to get few ranges colder than stock, then if they get fouled, get one hotter, again chekcing, till they dont get fouled. That would be a working plug temp-range for your specific engine. Then again, for stock or with bolt ons, the stock plug is really the correct choice.
