95 Corolla DX- Shift Kits?

Howdy fellas! My fiance has a 95 Corolla DX, 1.8L A4, and I was curious if anyone has/recommends a shift kit out there- electric or hydraulic, as well as if anyone can help ID the trans or tell me where the ID code would be hiding....I think its an A245 or something like that, but it would be nice to know as lately I've been getting the rookies at the parts store (2 trips for the correct trans filter kit should always be the way ). Thanks in advance!

You can make it to a "manual" But that requires at totally customized ECU for the tranny.

So is it possible to shorten/firm the shifts with the cable? I don't want to switch it to a manual valve body- that would be a bit much for her (I love her to death, but I have to be realistic...) Also, it's a 4 speed car, with only 3 gears shown on the selector... :twitch:

That's why everything I've ever purchased is from the General

Basically, I'm not looking for anything hardcore performance wise- it's basic transportation, plain and simple- I'm just trying to get the most longetevity out of it, and a slow shifting trans doesn't fit into that plan-it shifts like a stocker...ok, I guess. She's used to 2nd gear, light throttle scratches on both the Z's and the ol' Blaze, and thinks that hers shifts too slow in comparison.

Also, where are the ID codes/how do you ID the trans?

Automatic = slow on all 4cyl cars so either way, you're stuck with a slow car 6 and 8cyl cars have more power so even in automatic form they don't feel too slow. She's just not used to 4cyl cars. The manual transmission Corollas are a bit faster than the autos, so best thing is to teach her standard and get her a 5spd Corolla.

She get's to learn stick on a 396sbc/6 speed combo when I finish the swap

Actually, both of the Z's and the Blazer have/had a 4spd auto, and would shift slow...but by increasing/rerouting line pressure, the speed of the shift is increased...I don't feel that power has anything to do with it, IMHO, or at least with the trannies I've worked on it doesn't...only thing that power affected was stall speed of the converter. On the other hand, I don't know a thing about Toyota trannies and how they work, I'd assume on the same principles as any other...black magic LOL!

So basically, we're SOL on getting this thing to quit shifting like grandma sliding into a church bench. Thanks for the replies fella's- it's been a help.

BooYa! Found one, finally....I ordered a Transgo Reprogramming kit for the Blaze, and found that they make one for 93-02 Corolla, and 93-01 Prizm. It's in their latest catalog.

A245E-HD2 *NEW*
Corrects: soft 1-2, long 2-3 at heavy throttle, firmer 4th and lockup. Designed for Nitrous, Turbo charged applications.

I know what she's getting in her Xmas stocking now haha!!
