HUGE backfire out the intake manifold???? Flames!!!!!

Okay im nearing the end of my swap so to speak and i tried to start it and every thing seems tip top. But when i try to start it I get this huge back fire out the intake manifold t that shoots a blue and yellow flame out the throttle body and blows the intake pipe off. its a sr5 to 4age swap.I cant figure it out really my guesses are the motor is rotating the wrong way and going thru the combustion cycle in reverse just a wild guess or my timing is off on the blet ( if it is is the 4age a interference or non interference motor?) And what suggestion are ther for getting rid of this flaming back fire and getting the motor running throw them at me like I AM STUPID.... PLEASE I just want the thing to come on ive been sitting in my garage in the car for like a whole semester imagining it coming on and shifting thru gears sitting stll i cant take it any more . ANY help GREATLY APPRECIATED----- thanks Corollenertia

lol i think i know what my problem is . Lets just say when doing the swap and trying to remove thepowersteering pump i removed the distributor cap to get a better angle to take off the pump and bracket etc.... here is the dumd ass eclipse turbo owner who never had a distributor rotor style ignition system on a car he owned in his life until now took the distributor out and payed no attentiont o the motors crank position in reference to TDC or even marked the distributor sets it on a shelf has no clue if its been rotated or if any markings are on it to line up and sets it on a shelf. does his pump and braket and slaps it back on. hmmm i wonder what happened. every thing is off time on the ignition system. sound right on the money guys. i feel like a dumbass for treating my ae86 project like its my eclipse turbo. its like trying to compare a mclaren F1 to a power wheels corvette.

ok this should be easy to fix. it sounds like you got it firing during the valve overlap. heres the proceedure:

1. remove distributor and valve cover
2. rotate engine so that cylinder 1 (cylinder closest to belts) is at TDC on the compression stroke, look at the cam lobes to determine if your on TDC of the compression or exhaust/intake stroke, TDC can be found by the timing portion on the crank pulley, align the notch in the pulley to the zero mark.
3. remove distributor cap and turn the rotor manually till its pointing to where the number 1 terminal on the cap would be.
4. without turning the engine slide the distributor in ( don't turn the rotor much keep it pointing to the cylinder 1 terminals location )
5. loosely tighten the bolts
6. hook up electrical
7. time the engine normally with a timing light to factory spec
8. tighten down mounting bolts
9.DONE have fun

this should work thats how ive done it a few times, did it today infact, lol

Now school me on 4age injectors 101

alright Guys thanks for all the help back fire problem solved now that i have it timed properly i still cnat get it to start. It trys though But only when I use starter fluid. Ioriginally turned the key turned the motor heard my noisy under hood inline fuel pump and heard it pressurize the line the sound changes so i know. Then tried to start it i got no sounds of combustion at all what so ever. If there was combustion id probably see it and definitley hear it seeing as how I dont have exhuast from after the manifold back. well i checked the fuel pump to make sure its working and you could see fuel visibly being drawn thru my glass cased fuel filter( its on the low-pressure side of the pump. and i could feel the fuel line on the hihg pressure side had pressure on it. It definitley a gas charged line and its in the fuel rail as well because it goes out the fuel pressure regulator gas tank return.

Here is the dilly. I spray starter fluid in the intake and here s what i get it sound like its bumping over and after like 15 20 mins of trying to start it the exhuast manifold is hot . so I think I am moving in the right direction. But this leads me to belive my injectors are not opening and closing and spraying fuel but all of them cant be like that. SO how do I trouble shoot for this. What could I have missed that would cause this on the install.?

Ive never been so happy when my car didnt start up because I am so close to driving it.

it has 125 max cut off is what it can provide. But i swear no fuel is is being sprayed. and 170 liters per hour. i think i stated it above some where. i talked to the guy who has 2 and he uses a saab fuel pump saab turbo fuel pump from 900s for his and ha s no problems mine is from a volkswagen or audi car.its like 10psi more than a gts fuel pump i believe but i think the fpr is handling it very well because nothing has burst. Its only noisy because its under my hood. attached to where the suspension struts are in the engine bay.
