Estimate a cost on a ae-86 build up!

Hey Guys
I am new to the Toyota forums, I have a Suby WRX that has been completely modified
bigger turbo, coilovers injectors, fuel pump, exhaust etc etc. I have been using it as a show/track car.Now I am looking for a rwd project car. Choices are Silvia or GT-S. I like the idea
of the Corolla. So my question is costs. I was thinking I will need to find a some what decent gt-s then do a swap of tranny and engine. I will have the body repaired and painted. Strip the interior and prep for the track. The later I can do myself, though what can I expect to pay for a swap. Also what should I look for and look out for. Thanks for any help you can give.
John

i'm from the same boat, however i'm still working on my impreza. i picked up an 84 sr5 and converted it to gts (wiring, drivetrain, lsd, brakes, interior, etc.), also changed the front end to a levin. i'm currently 3000-4000 into the hole and i'm still looking for a motor. i haven't even started on the suspension or exterior yet. just been replacing things that need to be replaced (tends to be a lot for a 20+ yr old car) back to good-new condition. if you have the time and money go for it, but locating a stock one that hasn't been modified or beat to hell is gonna be a challenge. a 240 would be easily accessible and have less years/mileage on the chassis. but choose what you like and if you need any parts for the ae86 let me know.

The problem with "estimating" is that prices are different in all areas. In Canada, expect to pay $2500-$3000 CDN for a 20V or GZE swap and more if you're going with a Haltech standalone. A decent motor alone will run you about $1500-$2000, sure you can find Silvertops for about $500-1000 but most of the time they're not complete.

Body work will depend on the condition of the car, if its a rust bucket (in Canada they tend to be) is not gonna be cheap nor easy to fix, remember its an 18-20yr old car.

As for performance parts.. this ain't a Civic, so your local rice shop most likely won't carry parts, and if they do; be prepared to shell out mad $$$$.

Don't go into this project thinking.. Wow! I'm gonna do up an AE86 just as fast and easy as I did my *insert your past project here*! because if you do, you're better of going with an S13/S14 than an AE86.

by the time your done the first phase.... $10,000CAD won't be hard to reach.

decent AE86 = $1500-3500
engine swap = $2500-4000
bling-bling suspension = $1500-2500
JDM wheels and tires = $1000
body work and paintjob = $2500-3500
misc. (stuff that you don't actually need but you still buy it) = $1000

Ok, thanks for the info, I was estimating 8k-10k. I think I have to start with a GT-S over a sr-5, less work and cost in the long run.
