88-91 Gts

My friend is in the market for an 88-91 corolla gts. I would like to know more information about these cars though.

If you can, i'd like some information about the drive train, the engine code, the potential and weaknesses of the engine, what can be done in terms of mods and that kinda stuff.

thanks in advance.

Very Very reliable FWD comes stock with sway bars..oil cooler,4 wheel disc brakes, strut bar, The 4age powers it and is a very good engine i have had no major problems with mine and im at 191,xxx

as far as mods u can do what ever you want.. their are also many motor swaps you can do depending on what you want out of the car

yeah.. 90-91s have more power (130hp).. I have both, an 89 GTS with the Bigport TVIS 4AGE motor and a 90 GTS with a Smallport non-TVIS 4AGE motor, and I can tell the difference in power. The interior is a little nicer on the 90-91s too, and they come with DRLs/fog-lights.

about 15hp...... the smallport comes with larger injectors, smaller cams (so you can easily upgrade to bigports and see even more of a gain), a drainback on the back of the head (was done for acceleration reasons on the FWD cars) and higher compression.....

also, the rear brakes on the 90-91 are larger......

wow, that's quite a wide variety of choices there. So the stock motor is the 4age 16 valve right? how much power can be pushed out of the 4age without having to switch out the internals. Furthermore, is there any aftermarket support for that motor?

you could build it up like any other motor but most people will tell you to go with a 4agze which is supercharged and built up for forced induction and is pretty much bullet proof for anything you want to do to it... to answer your question yes their is but not cheap better off replacing the old worn out 4ag that you will find in most ae92's

I have owned a 1990 GTS for 10 years. It's the most reliable car i've had.
