Its possible, and no it wont be risky, you might start to leak oil from somewhere due to synthetic oils better cleaning capabilities, but no other problems.

does castrol or mobile make mineral oil? so you are saying that the terms "20w-40" can be used for mineral oil as well?

I use mobile 7500 synthetic blend with a high quality filter and change the oil every 6000. On the 2 new cars I have, I will wait till 10,000 before switching over.

Synthetic is a waste of money for our engines. We simply do not need it. Our engines are too weak and dont go through the same type of friction and heat that a high revving powerful V8 motor goes through. Stick with regular 10w 30 Mobil 1 Oil. Its about $1.28 a quart compared to synthetic which is around $5 or more.

Castrol Australia do not make Synthetic oil. Your best bet is to go with something like Penrite HPR-10 Semi-synthetic. That way it is less of a dramatic change. I love Castrol and all, but in my engine i will only use semi-synthetic.

I don't know if you know this but 4 cylinder rev much higher during any type of driving that 8 cylinders.

It's a know fact, take your care out for a spin and watch the tack at any given speed and go with a friend in an 8. Watch how much lower the 8's rev's are at any given speed.
