oil overfill

i was refilling the oil pan...drove it for a few minutes..then checked the dipstick..(it was completely dry..no kidding..) then refilled again and again..till i saw it up to full mark..after a few minutes..tried again for safety...and the dipstick had it well above the full mark...so i checked the oil container..and it had like 3 litres off it!!?!?!!?!?! my engines only 1.6 ....why wasn't the dipstick showing any oil on it before?

is that very risky? is there any other ways of taking the excess oil out without unscrewing the drain plug? or is that the only way?

Did you change your oil? How much oil total did you put in there?

1.6L engine is the displacement of the cylinders, not the ammount of oil it takes. Putting 3L of oil sounds about right

well i think i put in 3 litres initially (accidentally, i wasn't even looking at the container mark)...so anyways after that, the dipstick was showing well above full..(this is when the car was on ramps btw)..then i drained the pan a little to let some gush of oil out..then the dipstick red just a lil below full mark (still car on ramps)....then I backed the car out of the ramps on level surface..now the dipstick reads half of the full mark..this is confusing the hell out of me

Was this your first time changing your oil? Follow your fsm.

BTW: I have a 1.6 also, I put 4L of oil in mine. Maybe your dipstick is wrong. My dipstick reads just above the low mark, that doesn't mean my car lacks oil (gonna change my dipstick soon anyways).

Because it takes a while for it to get from the head to the pan. The oil capacity for drain/refill with filter swap is 3.8 liters. I normally pour almost a 4liter canister in there.
