Cold air Intake and Bypass valve

I am thinking about doing a cold air intake on my 97 Corolla. My main concern is driving in the rain or thru a puddle and water getting in the engine. I am wondering if those bypass valves from AEM really work and are they reliable. Are they garanteed.

there is alot of argument as to whether or not they actually work. the mechanics behind how they are supposed to work have been explaind 10 ways since sunday on about 2 other forums i am apart of. some people say they work and some people say they don't. there was an articel in sport compact magazine where the owner of AEM fully submersed his CAI in water and revved his car to high rpm's. even though that would be a feasible argument, i've heard others argue that sitting in a puddle and revving your engine is drastically different from hitting a deep puddle going 50+ mph. but then again i dunno. i don't have a bypass valve. never hurt me none. unless you have your car dropped 4 + inches or something ridiculous like alot of those civic guys you shouldn't have to worry.

just avoid those king neptune type puddles and you're good

Shield the filter so it doesn't got direct splash. Mine is inside the driver side fender so never have problem with it. I use no-touch car wash all the time. Think you'll get heavier rain then that? You not gonna get water in your engine unless you dive into a 2 ft puddle.

AEM bypass valve is just a rip-off. I havent seen those being used much after they were introduced, they seem to be faded out, kinda like 80's stuff

I think the test was complete biased horseshit, notice how long the intake tract was, it was like 2 meters! Not to mention, when the filter was taken out of the bowl, it rose to about a foot (I think thats what it says) in the pipe. Well.. I would of wanted to see the same thing without the AEM bypass filter, and see the same test....they could of used a junker to test it.
