AE92 3SGTE into AE92

I own a 90 Corolla and have bought a 3SGTE swap including ECU and wiring harness. I'm wondering what modifications will I have to do fit the bastard in there? I know the mounts are going to be custom urethane, gear linkage, but what else?

I have the tranny, it was included in the swap. I was pretty sure about the axles too, thanks. Anything else you want to add before I start this project?

you have the tranny, but its not the right one.

if the 3SGTE came from an MR2, you have the wrong transmission because the MR2 is mid-engined RWD setup. and if the 3SGTE came from a Celica ALL-TRAC, you ALSO have the wrong transmission because the ALL-TRAC is AWD.

Neither MR2 or Celica ALL-TRAC transmissions will work, in order to do a 3SGTE swap you need a FWD transmission from another S series motor. from either an older Celica FWD with a 3SGE (non-turbo) or from a Camry with a 5SFE motor. on top of that you will need to upgrade the clutch to something that will be able to hold the power that the 3SGTE will give you. On top of this you will need custom mounts for the transmission to fit into the AE92.

You should've researched this swap before you bought it because basically with the motor you have, providing that you did get a 3SGTE with an uncut wiring harness and ECU, you're only half way there.

yes....... mr2 trannies are the same as fwd ones with the linkage on the opposite side. you need to drill through part of the tranny and use fwd linkages..... but it's straight forward

i would almost suggest just getting an e51 tranny from an s/c mr2..... the axles from that have the same outboard shaft as the corolla..... along with having the same mount locations (for the most part) as the C series that's in your car..... on top of this, the e51 shares internals with the e150 (mr2 turbo trans)..... you would need the bellhousing off your e150 to bolt the e51 up to the 3sgte...... but i'm sure this will make the swap much easier.

I would almost suggest checking out some mr2 forums..... this is a very common swap in mark 1 mr2's.... which from factory have an A series engine and C series tranny (same setup as corollas).

That was the point I was making, I'm just not sure of the codes for the 3SGE and 5SFE transmissions.

e58's use different axles..... those aren't too easy to get around here. I had an lsd e58 but didn't use it in my mr2 because i couldn't find axles.... i ended up finding an e51 with axles for cheaper than the custom axles would have cost me for the e58.
