2006 Corolla

anybody have the inside track on the changes for the 06 cars? I'm looking to buy a new Corolla and am wondering if I should wait for the 06 cars. The dealer won't give her a break on the 05 so I'm thinking She may as well wait a couple of months for the 06. She had been looking at the S model with a moonroof, ground effects, rear spoiler, etc. Now I have been wondering if she should be considering the XRS model. She said the S had priced out at about 25K $Cdn. How much more for an XRS over the S?

The 06's are suppost to be a carryover, somebody has asked that question before in the following thread.

http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t87303.html

To find the price difference between an XRS and a S go to toyota.ca and build one online.

Hope this answers your questions.

Only difference is that you get Variable Intermittent Wipers. Other than that, no cosmetic changes for it's final year before redesign.

I personally would get the XRS over the S if you can afford, however, can she drive stick?

the 2006 model should be a carry over as said by 03mooncorolla, but I believe the 2007 will be a redesign.

yes she is getting manual tranny. She came home with an S with every option including sunroof & skirts, when I looked on the website and saw the XRS I figured I had better find out more about it. Are all XRS manual tranny? How much more is an XRS over a fully equipped S?

You need to put in Premium Gas in the XRS (93 Octane), compaired to Regular Unleaded (87 Octane) in the S. Just think of the cost factor on that too..

Pricing for a Fully equipped Corolla S with sport package $22,625 (total cost with freight and taxes $27,136)
and the Corolla XRS $24,310 (total cost with freight and taxes $29,057)
All pricing taken from Toyota.ca web site

use the following link for all the differences between the S and XRS

http://www.toyota.ca/cgi-bin/WebObje...5f3%5fe%2ehtml

The XRS is only available with the six speed, I have no feed back on the 6 speed, reffer to my other post for the link to 9thgencorolla you should get feed back there.

XRS has sport tuned suspension, VVTL-I engine (1.8 litre I4).. 170 hp

S has normal squishy suspension, VVTI (1.8 litre I4) .. 130 hp..

the XRS has minor exterior differences from what I remember.

The standard suspension isn't that soft.

The XRS comes only with a 6-speed close ratio transmission. It features standard power moonroof, 16" alloys (from the Matrix XR), front strut tower bar, XRS front scuff plates, no 60/40 split folding seat, "sport" fabric, optitron gauges, metallic trim, tyre pressure monitoring system and 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS & EBD among the other things mentioned above. And yes, it requires premium fuel and a set of winter tyres (summer performance tyres are standard)

Oh, and with the 6M, it beeps when you reverse. No idea why and so far haven't heard of any way to turn it off. It might be similar to the method used to turn off the seatbelt chime. (As it is for the Prius)

The beep is to warn noobie's that 1st and Reverse are pretty darn close - lest you backup at a stoplight and crush that poor Civic who can only catch you...when you're stopped.
