Knock sensor?

I have just been thinking. I have an un-findable engine light on my 20v which is causing it to run EXTREMELY rich. It also has a tendancy to switch itself back to normal at times, but when it does it is way off timing wise.

Does this sound like a knock sensor? Or could the timing issue just be because i checked and changed the timing while the light was on to try and rectify the situation in the first place?

a Knock sensor would retard timing, but I think the 20V doesnt have such. I think it might be the oxygen sensor. When you changed the timing, did you plug the service connector and then adjust it, if you didnt, your timing is WAY off and since the 20V is a low emissions engine it would blink the check engine light.

um, 20v does have a knock sensor...... a bad o2 sensor would cause the excessive richness.... and generally the cel doesn't go off from a bad o2 sensor until it's pretty much toast....

Severe timing error would cause the knock sensor to try to retard the timing, because it thinks the engine is knocking, which might in a bad case in some cars cause the check engine light to turn on, in the even the timing cant be adjusted by the ECU. Then again, I dont have much experience with knock sensors and them with 20V's...

o2 sensor is brand new. Temprature sensor is brand new. TPS is brand new. The CEL codes dont work with this engine light as the light is OFF when the ignition is on but not started and the engine light ON when running. Which is why i am starting to think that it cant be timing. The diagnosis connector was shorted when i timed her too.
