Angry Blinded by the chrome!

Does anyone else have the same problem? I have the S, 2005, which has the chrome shit on the inside, including the lil gearshift display cover, whatever the hell it's called... here:

It's nice and all, but when that south florida sun is beaming down on it, the chrome reflects the beam right into my damn cornea and blinds me!

Basically my question is, can I get a different cover? I've been searching around and havent seen anything. Does the CE model have the same thing, or is it plain black? I think actually a carbon fiber one would look tight, but I don't know if they exist. Anyone have some input?

Its easy as hell to take out just put your gear in drive and unscrew your shifter knob, pull your emergency brake back and lift up on the plastic base near your cup holders(both sides at once), lift is up all the way over the shifter arm (your cig/outlet wire can just be pulled off) then the chrome plate just snaps out, pull that over the shifter arm(a tight fit), The gear letters are a little plastic piece under the chrome plate that just slides out and back in easy...Then you can paint it the color you want or contact it or even put leather on it use your imagination, then just put it back in reverse order...last thing don't drop anything small when you have the base off you will never find it...good luck and let us know how it turns out and Oh I don't have that problem either I just found this out changing my shifter light bulb ...Radd Guy

^^ Or just go to your toyota dealer and get a woodgrain trim or something similar?

Did they not come with that option?

Trace if it is that plasticized chrome...then I have had good luck with the "for plastic" spray paints. They come in spray cans...most every color.

The middle of my stock grill was a gunmetal color but was beginning to fade/wear off (maybe I wash too much ) and I just pulled it, 400-600 gritted it, masked it, and painted it black. No chips, bubbles, blisters, etc. and over 30k miles. I'm impressed for under 5$ a can.
