Build 3T-C or swap 4A-GE?

Ok I need some opinion.

Should I rebuild and modify the 3T-C in my car..

...or swap in a 4A-Ge.

I have the mechanical skills and access to tools and professionals necesarry to do either one of these things.

any help appreciated

Jake

p.s. The purpose of this car is going to be mainly autocross but it still needs to be streetable.

It depends what you are planning on using the car for. If you want/need more torque then go with the 3TC if you want more hp and will be using higher RPM's more then go with the 4age. Both are great motors to build up. Obviously the 4age has more things available to it but the 3TC does have a lot of aftermarket support for it.

Will the 3TC still be reliable making, say, 150 or so HP?

I have alot of experience with engines, and alot of friends with alot of experience. Mainly american V-8s and such. I am new to the Toyota scene so I might ask some dumb questions about these motors.

How much HP can the stock block handle? How about the stock crank and rods?

Would it be worth it money wise to rebuild the engine with forged balanced crank and rods. It's going to be a daily driver also used for autocross. How streetable would a ~150hp 3TC be?

Thanks alot

Jake

i say stick with the 3tc since youve got it plus the demand for the 4ag. I was considering many different engines for my te21. Even up to a ka24 or the honda f20 but decided to get the 3tc. i didnt want to spend the time to re-wire for fuel injection plus fairly easy to modify. theres one guy in a copy of super street that has a 3tc in his car and he's pushing 280whp naturally aspirated.

I would vote for the 3TC too. There are a lot of parts and tuning info out there for this engine and if you plan to autocross the car, this engine would be a better choice, imo. I am running a built 4AG right with now HKS cams and dual Webers and you have to rev the thing to get to the power band whereas a 3T gives a lot of torque down low. With a Y crank and 89 mm pistons, you'll have a displacement over 2 liters.
