4AGE doesn't start NEED HELP!

Just finished swapping a 4AGE engine in my SR5
Engine is a bigport redtop

When I turn the key, the starter starts anbd tries to start the engine but the engine never starts on his own. We tried giving some gaz but this diesn't help.
Spark plugs and wires are all new.
We have no leaks in the engine bay of anything.

The only problem I have is a leak around the fuel pump but gas is still going to the engine so it should fire up anyway.

Your help would be very appreciated on my problem, wether it's for my leak or the engine not starting.

Should I change the complete fuel pump or can I buy just the gaskets to stop the leak?
What could I verify to find my problem for my engine not starting up?

What do you mean by the engine never starts on his own? If you boost it will it start or does it just crank and not fire?

You're certain that you're getting fuel, but are you getting spark (I'm assuming already that the compression is fine in your engine)?

Your timing could also be off.

By swapping a motor, you do mean engine, ECU and all required components right?? or just the motor itself?

maybe i'm retarded.... but how is your fuel pump leaking? what gaskets would you need? an efi fuel pump is IN the tank......

try starter fluid and see if it tries to start. Check to make sure your dizzy location and tdc of #1 are about correct..... if your spark order isn't correct then it won't start.....

CorollaDX-R : battery is fine, took the one from my 2 month old lancer and returned at my place with the same battery so this is not the issue

hachi_slow : The only thing it does is crank and sound like a boat. I'm gonna check the fire tonight nut i'm pretty sure i get sparks.

Has for the timing....I think this could be the problem 'cos I'm not a mechanic and we changed the timing belt after changing the crank seal. But I tought the engine would start even if timing was off by a few degrees.

REN69: by swapping the motor I'm saying swapping the motor, tranny, engine wiring and dash wiring, also clusters:P...complete GTs swap.

toyotaspeed90 : For the fuel pump leaking I have no idea...just realised it was leaking right after the gas tank. I don't even know if there is a gasket for this part. Car as been sitting without wirking for more than 7 months so I thought a gasket could have dried off.

What do you mean by starter fluid? never heard of this.
Never check for the dissy location and TDC of #1 but I never removed the dizzy or the pistons so I shouldn't have changed this...the engine was working before I got it so this should be ok.

Also,how could I make sure my timing is ok for the engine to start. Is there something I could do on my own before sending it in a garage. My problem is I have no brakes or wheels for the car so even if the garage make the engine start I'll have to call a flat bed to tow it back home. If I could just start it (even if timing is sorta bad as long as it starts) then I could put the brakes and find some wheels and take it to get the timing A1!

thanks a lot for your help guys, keep giving me your ideas. IM sure I'll be able to start it up with your help!

how to estimate timing without the engine starting........ look at your distributor cap and see where #1 is..... pull the cap, and then the wire and plug on #1...... turn the motor by hand.... using something long, skinny, and dull, check to see where the top of #1 is (meaning, if you turn the engine by hand either way the piston will go down). the rotor in the dizzy should be placed right around where the #1 cap electrode is for the plug.

the firing order is 1-3-4-2

You might also want to see if you're getting any spark at all!!!!!!!

Pull one of the plug wires and hold it by the boot.......(don't get zapped, it'll hurt).

Hold it somewhere very close to something metal 'cuz you wanna see if spark jumps out the end of the spark plug wire. (You could also remove the whole spark plug and simply and look in the spark plug tip for the same thing).

Keep this test away from your leaky fuel pump........(for obvious reasons). Maybe some of the car's own metal around the engine bay somewhere.

This is old school, but many times people will *assume* that they have spark in the first place and they'll have NOTHIN'!!

You spray starter fluid in your carb in order for you to get a immediate start. That way you dont drain the battery waiting for gas to get to the chamber when you turn it over.

Liter : I see what you mean, I don't have a carb since I have a redtop bigport. Injection system for me.
And for draining the battery, I think she should be able to take it until the engine starts.

^read the rest of the posts man, its a 4AGE, no carberator. You COULD spray some in the intake track, but its not necessary.

After completing a swap, i had the same problem, wouldnt start. If you've got spark, and fuel, and there is nothing physically wrong with the engine, its probably the timing. Do what the other guys suggested and get that set correctly, if its off too much it wont run at all. Also, if the motor has been sitting for a while, it can take some time to get it running again, or it might run kinda crappy for a bit. mine smoked for 15min before finally clearing up and getting a smooth idle.

My dad had his civic sitting around for about 3months and he tried to start it, it took him about 2days of trying until it actually started. I'd say try push-starting it to get it going and burn off the excess crap.

you can just spray starter fluid into the throttle body.... make sure it's open though.

also, since i'm sure you have an afm setup, you HAVE to have the afm and tube connected for it to run...

if it's really hard to start but seems like it should be, possibly your cold start injector system isn't working properly.... try holding the gas pedal down during a cold start to see if added fuel will make it run......

Ok we set the timing correctly, we tried to start the car, it really sounded like it would start and sounded like a real engine.
But the second time I tried to start the engine nothing happened..the starter didn'T do anything!

So we quickly thought the starter was done so we bought a new one.
But now the new starter was tested and worked fine but once in the engine nothings happen.
We followed the power with a test light and everything seems good.
I really don't get it why it's not starting.
Now when I try the start the radiator fan starts I hear a click from one of the relay in the fuse box in the engine bay and nothing else.
by the way I tried the Te1 and E1 jumped to reset ECU.

any ideas?

Hydro lock? Maybe the combustion chamber is full of fuel? Hope you didnt bend anything.
