Red face Really STUPID Dilemma....

So I'm sitting in my car, in the drive-thru lane....window down, debit card in hand, waiting for my turn. I'm bored so I start sliding my card in the opening where the window goes up & down, and for some retarded reason I let go of it. And now it's floating around in my door somewhere!

Way to go, Tracy!! ...yeah.

Does anyone know if this is something I could easily remove myself? I don't want to just go around ripping door panels off and mess something else up, but I'm sure it can't be rocket science.

My Toyota dealership said they can do it, but they'll charge an hour labor ($95)....so fugg that.

So umm

If anything, I can always just call the bank and tell them I lost it, but I don't wanna wait for a new one. So if anyone has a solution, let me know.. Thanks!

Walk INTO the bank and they should be able to give you a temp card until the new one arrives.

Get your boyfriend to help you. It isn't hard to pull panels. If he can't help you then he's useless...dump him

I don't think Chiltons/Haynes has a TSM (technical service manual) for your *NEW* corolla yet. The clips and screws should be easy to locate and remove. Remember to replace any clips you accidentally break. Even though the dealer rapes you on the price for the clips, it will still be cheaper than the labor alone.

Take your time and be patient. Don't get all hussy and just rip it off.

Get him to paint your chrome trim thing while he's pulling stuff. I replied to that one too...

roflmbo...thanks for the laugh this cracks me up.

stupidity is painful as I myself have discovered.

I dropped my credit card between the seat and door once and felt like a nimrod trying to find it before the drive thru woman opened the window to get my payment. thankfully I did.

with door open looking at interior of door....
1st. there are 2 pieces, 1 has the power windows locks, the other is to the left of that and has the handle for shutting the door. pop off the piece with the handle (only held on by clips) 2nd. pop off the piece with the power buttons (only held on by clips) 3rd. undo the two wire harnesses (plugged in by clips) they are attached to the power buttons. now you will see two screws going into your door. 4th. get a razor blade and inside your interior door handle you'll see a small square. slide the razor in on the left side and pop that square open. That is the 3rd screw. 5th. Take all 3 screws out. 6th. Starting from the bottom pry the panel off....i think there are 4-6 clips but then the panel will be loose. slide it up because it hooks over the top and you're done.

i know it was a long description but after you do it once you can remove it in 5 min. anytime. ecspecially if you want to change your front speakers or put on m3 mirrors etc.....

Thanks guys.....

Glad I could give you a few laughs @ my expense! ...haha. I've been laughing at myself every subsequent time i think about it as well.

As far as the card goes, I called the bank and had a few more laughs with the customer service guy concerning my little, um, incident today.... so they're gonna send me a new one and cancel this one. I still may attempt to get it out, just for the hell of it, so thanks for the instructions, adsaba.

And Bull, the boyfriend isn't home tonight so I can't pawn this one off on him . I'm sure he could do it, but I'll let him stick to buying stuff for my car, because first of all, I'm more of a hands-on kinda girl anyway.... I like to at least try something before I make someone else do it. And I like to feel somewhat in control of the situation, so being all up in the action is fine by me
(I'm gonna do the paint thing myself too, but may need some guidance on the exact color/finish... I'm not 100% sure about that)

But, anyways... thanks again guys

-T

Just be careful with the wiring if you have power windows/locks, I assume that the wiring is in there.

Yea but be gentle, there's a bunch of plastic pins you can break when taking off the door. Make sure all the screws are out first before yanking on the door.

I don't have a Gen 9, but adsaba1969 gave you some pretty good instructions.

It's true: after you've done it once you can take it off faster than you can pull down your pants.

On a brand new car I wouldn't pull the panel. If you do it may be loose and you may tear the plastic sheeting behind it and start the car's first road noises. It's just not worth it.

when i bought my car I had them add leather and one of the cloth to leather conversion pieces was the cloth on the door panel. Since then i have taken them off a few times each and that has never even come close to being a problem
