I just had a similar problem with my '94 Corolla. People told me it was due to a leaking gasket, but I fixed it without spending much money. I got a full oil change done, full system flush with filter change. They saw that the exuast nozzle on the valve cover was wearing out, so they replaced it. No more white smoke. Also, might want to check the radiator cap. If the seal gets broken, moisture gets into the oil.
I have a 96 Corolla and it does the same thing from time to time, only after it has been sitting overnight. My mom's 89' camry does the same thing also.
It is not condensation. I'm was thinking the valve stem seals were leaking a little bit, but when the engine is off, there isn't much oil sitting on top of the seals to leak down overnight.
Not sure what it really is, but it doesn't seam to affect anything else. I have 270,000 miles on it and it started around 50k ago. Will stop for several months and come and go when it wants to.
my 89 corolla does the same thing...but after i drive it around town for a long time, and come back to park in the driveway, it stops....and thn it smokes again the next day, is THAT anything to worry about?
No, if it's the seals, once the engine is running oil will be moving too quickly to leak into the cylinders and burn. It only smokes when the car is started after sitting.
