I need brighter lights for my 99 rolla... Ideas ?

OK, I don't need anything fancy or expensive. All I'm looking for is a way to get better visability during night driving. Need them fo the job. Is there a "better" replacement bulb ? Anything where I don't have to mess with any wiring/harness/connections ? Ideas, suggestions ?

Thanks, Geo

P.S. I looked on the archives and did not find anything.

Silverstars are good ...about $40 a pair in a autostore, I have got them on ebay for $25 already..one thing is if you have DRL's it tends shorten the life of the bulbs...Good Luck...Radd Guy

100/130W Philips bulbs, ~7bucks at the local parts shop per bulb. Silverstars and those are just overpriced crap.... Might end up burning your housings, but didnt have problems on my AE92. Also changing the wiring, to so that it takes the power directly from the battery via 4 relays (two for short, two for high) helps in bumping the light output. The stock shoelace wires are a resistor in themselves.
If you want even more lighting output, HID-kit.

Yeah, but they're still 55/60W, which is the power output. Now thats like stock, bump some 100/130W bulbs in there and you'll see the difference. Oh and when they claim to get 60/80W from 55/60W bulbs, thats bullshit and a marketing scam.

go with a japanese brand not some american crap. I have the PIAA super plasma. The bulb is rated at 55/60 but put out the same ass a 120/135. They are purple on low beam and white on high beam. Some other jap brands are nokya and mtec.

Which is a common marketing style, they DONT put out 120/135 if they only take 55/60...
Just go with my advice and get the philips ones, then again... they do say not for road use in EU, but I guess you can get away with that in USA.

Sounds like taiwan to me...

Thanks...

OK so I can go from 40 bucks to 250 depending on...

Lets see, Silvanias Silver Stars are either good or bad.

I checked the accessory place and the bulbs are 40 bucks each for the cheap ones.

I could use cheap 7 buck bulbs but would have to change half of the wiring.

HID for 250 ?, and the commie CA laws could get me in trouble.

Two year life on some of those bulbs ?

I appreciate all your responces, thats how I/we learn.

Any other ideas for a plain old plug and play bulb ?

Geo

Silverstars...I've had 9006's in my lows and fogs and each one lasted no more than 8 months total. They're mates blew out within a week of each other. While they look great, they don't last long. That said, there's a 1 year warranty on them...just keep your receipts.

Rumour has it that they burn out early because you're supposed to pair up Silverstars 9006's (lows) with 9005's (highs). I can't confirm or deny this. Still researching...

I picked up my Lite-Glow's at my local rice shop.. so they should be available everywhere.. I know they have a website and they're made in the US. They're called Xenon Hyperwhite Bulbs.
