1991 4AFE head to 1997 4AFE block

I posted wrong forum before. I used search and did'nt find specifics. I have been buying old corollas needing engines and repairing, selling them to welfare mothers. Right now I'm left w/ a 97 Prism needing a head and a leftover head from a 91. I've read of the new design head but fail to see what exactly else besides the valve cover and water outlet changed. And why did they change it? I see that pistons are diff. as are rings and connecting rods. However cam profiles are close and I'm wondering if I change sensors, could I bolt this on and it run?

97 FE head is somewhat better in flow characteristics than the 91 FE head.
Manifolds wont fit either. soo... take your pick.

so if I swap intake and exhaust manis, (which I need a new exhaust anyway) from the 91. There should'nt be any problem w/ the ECU or injecters? I ask because head gaskets are not cheap for these vehicles and hate to waste one just trial fitting. I see where I have to go back to the old style also of coolant hose from the waterpump and the thermostat housing I guess sensors could swap out also? I hate buy another head when this ones sitting needing a home.

Yeah, but why swap the 1st gen head onto a 2nd gen block, the 1st gen head is worse than the 2nd gen.

still kinda wonderin guys if any of ya'll have done it. I know pistons are diff. Is there interferance? What it boils down to is I have a 97 bottom end thats good and a 91 head thats good can I mate them and have a good engine. I know I have to route the water line to match the 91 head.
