Fuel filter -90 corolla

What mileage should fuel filter be replaced? Some dealers say 30,000, others say 100,000. My user book doesn't say. I heard it's hard to replace so if it's 30,000, why would toyota make it hard to replace? Also is generic ok? I see generic can be had for $12-16 while toyota is about 40. Any advice is appreciated.

This is what my mechanic told me... Don't replace it unless you need to.. in other words, when it starts to leak its time to replace.

I don't mean to contradict REN69, but I was always told that it was good to replace the fuel filter in shorter intervals, especially the way the gas is today (apparently much dirtier than it used to be).

On my old 4Runner, the fuel filter got old and plugged, so much so that it caused too much draw on the fuel pump. So instead of paying the 15 bucks for a fuel filter, I ended up paying about 400 for a pump

BUT, that's only on EFI systems. I'm not sure that it would have so much impact if the fuel pump is mechanical.

I change mine when i change coolant, trans oil, brake fluid and clutch fluid, so every 60,000km here. But for me, its not that hard as it is just bolted on the firewall with a bracket.

Dunno what it's like on the AE92's, but it shouldn't be that hard to change should it?

i just went to replace mine today, i dont know when it was replaced but the car has 150k miles. the bottom banjo bolt i guess its called was a total pain in the ass so i ended up giving it over to a friend with a more complete set of tools to rip up. with my little hands i could just barely squeeze past everything and if that bolt hadnt been stuck i could have taken it out without removing anything else, but for my friend to get in there he ended up taking out the charcoal canister and its mounting bracket, the top half of the airbox, and the wheel underneath to reach in. when i was ratcheting off the 10 mm bolts there was just barely enough clearing to get in 1 click on the ratchet so it took like 80 little ratchet actions to get each one of the bolts off the filter. i was pretty pissed i had this much trouble working on a basic maintenance item like this, on my other cars, 280z and a jetta, both took me like 10 mins to switch out and were relatively conveniently placed.

lol, yes replaceing the fuel filters on those is a PAIN IS THE ASS the connection at the bottom often is seized in further attempts to remove it will results in a broken fuel line, which is not very fun to replace, my advise would be, if it is difficult to break the fitting loose, leave it be.
