Question MPG Question for '03 - '05 Corollas

I am thinking of purchasing an 03 - 05 used Corolla. I drive 58 miles to work every day for a round trip total of 116 miles. That is from West Palm Beach to Miami on Florida's turnpike at "normal" speeds (75 - 85 MPH).

Obviously, the MPG drops off a bit from the EPA estimates for every 5 MPH over 60. My question is: What kind of mileage can I expect traveling at a constant 75 - 85 MPH? Anyone with highway communting experience?

Please indicate if you have an auto or manual transmission.

Thanks

We have an '05 S w/ automatic, averaging around 33 mpg in daily all around driving (combined city/hwy), and we averaged about 37+ mpg on long roadtrip up north (I-95 corridor, so it wasn't ALL @75 mph - I dunno how folks can stand to drive daily in the Baltimore/DC areas - I freaking hate that much traffic), I think our mileage would've been a lil better had we driven at night - daytime traffic was ridiculous, to put it mildly. If you don't go heavy on the gas pedal, you should be able to easily get at least 35 on freeways - I mean, we were traveling 75-80 mph (when we were actually moving and not stopped in a construction zone jam) with a/c on and car loaded for family of four weeklong vacation. I don't believe there's much of a difference in gas mileage between autos and manuals anymore - just the "fun" difference . I still love our S, in spite of being auto....

I can pretty much second the last post. I to have a 2005 S/auto and usually with a combo city/highway on my 56 mile commute get around 35-36 MPG. I did get 37 one tank but didn't run the air that week. Great commuting/runabout car!

regards,

I just bought an '05 CE 5 speed - - just turned 2,000 miles, I commute about 70 miles total, all highway (Tampa to Lakeland) 75 mph or so and so far am only seeing about 32 mpg - - it might get better with more miles.

My 05 gets 37 mpg no matter what. I'm sure that I could squeeze a little more out of it if I drove slower than 75-80 on the interstate. However, it is a 5-spd.

My 05 S gets about 36 city and 43-45 highway. I need to fill up the tank badly right now, but its at about 375 miles to the tank at the moment.
