My car rides really low, especially since the suspenion system has seen better days. Will putting on 185 tires vs 175 tires make much of a difference(other than getting rid of these 35 dollar pep boys tires off and the firestones)
I don't know where you buy your shocks/struts from, but there's no way they should cost you $1000, not even for OEM.
You can get a set of KYB GR-2s for about $250. Those'll do you fine, especially if you're not a hardcore performance nut. A little firmer than stock, but not uncomfortably so. Installation should run you about the same $ or less.
Good luck!

yeah its the install thats the worst cause you have to like remove the rear seats and shit to get to the the rear struts...the fronts are cheaper....im not worrying about the parts its the labor thats a killer. If i was to replace them i would probably buy some better aftermarket ones anyway, but i dont think im gonna put that kind of money into my car....ill just deal with the horrible ride over bumps

bad struts arent just an issue of a bad ride, its a safety issue too. the back seat pops out, the seat belt is held in place with a 14 mm bolt... take out the 3rd brake light, pop off the rear panel and you can get it em out easy.
struts dont support the weight of a vehicle, springs do.
/pulls head out of dark smelly place
I wasn't thinking, obviously. Still, I find it hard to believe that his springs could have sacked out so quickly. I know that the factory struts go out pretty quick (used to own a 2000 LE). Dlichterman, do you normally drive with really heavy cargo?

The 98 came with 175/65-14s right?? if so, you can up-size to 185/60-14 and suffer minimal change.. if you went to say.. 185/65-14s then yeah, you would raise about an inch.
Don't listen to these foos! they don't know what they talkin bout!
Btw, I put KYB GR2s AND Apex springs on my car for under $1000 CDN and that included alignment.

true, but ive noticed alot of 3rd and 4th gen camrys seem to be riding low these days. anythings possible.
well i used to drive 4 other kids to school and that just killed the car i think....and the fucking speed bumps in the school lot....the car would actually bounce back sometimes and hit the speed bumps or something i think
