Engine Check Light

Hello
I have a 98 Toyota Corolla VE. Engine check light came on couple of days ago. I went to a garage and they told me that it was the evaporator. The guy over there reset the code for me. I drove the car to home and after around 20 kms light came up again. I disconnected the battery and after around 18 kms light came up again. Guy in the garage told me that he would charge around $150 to repair it but it wasn't a big deal, I could drive the car.
Does anybody have a suggestion?
Thanks.

You'll need to be a little more specific. What code was it? Im sure you ment evaporative system. Depending on where you live if you have emission testing, it wont pass. The light comes on because something isnt working right. Just my opinion but I would get it fixed, or get the code number and try to fix it yourself. you'll get a lot of help from the people on here.

Hello Shawn;
I live in Ontario, Canada. I forgot to ask for the code. But for the first time, check engine light came on just after the emission test. And the car easily passed the e-test. I think I need to ask for the code again.
