Unhappy '94 Corolla Starter

WTF!? Okay, Haynes, Autozone, and Alldatadiy.com basically say "Remove air cleaner system, remove starter wires, remove starter." I can't even see much of the thing, and can get my hands on less of it. I definately can't tell where anything on it is, and none of the manuals are giving any info. As far as I can tell, I would have to remove at least the throttle body, probably the intake manifold to just get all the wires off.

On top of all this, it's covered in oil. So I'm pretty sure the starter itself would be fine, as it does start after quite a few tries, if only the wires weren't covered in OIL. But I can't get to them to clean them, at least as far as I can tell. And I can't get to it from underneath because it's sitting on top of the transmission. HELP!

You take off the wires from underneath and then unbolt from topside unless you are able to reach wires from topside, and already know where they go.

Um, no. There's a small problem with the TRANSMISSION being in the way. That was the first thing I tried, going from the bottom. No go...I'd need go-go-gadget arms to reach it from around the tranny.

I'll give it a shot, I guess. You have an automatic? Because it's bigger than a stick, I would assume.
