rear spring interchangability w/ AE86?

anyone know if rear springs from any other Toyota will fit the AE86 corolla? there's a set of custom eibach springs at work built for an older cressida that I wouldn't mind using if they fit my corolla

Do you know what year end that cressida had? If it has the 6.7" then it should fit. I just finished putting my old 81 celica rear end on my AE86 and ended up having to use the springs from the celica because the spring perch on the celica rear end was bigger and the stock AE86 springs wouldn't fit but I think that is because I have an SR5 not a GTS and so the SR5 had a different suspension setup plus the smaller 6.38" rear end and not the 6.7" like the GTS and my old 81 celica had. Just check the perch size and the top size to see if it will fit I beleive they will though if it is the older cressidas that had the solid rear end.

I can't remember but I think that some parts from the hyundai excel were interchangable with ae86 (suspension wise) I read this a while back...**40 minutes later** yeah I found my sport compact car with the 84 sr5 coupe from "team revvin over 40s" (not even good enough for a gts) he put tokico illumina shocks from a mr2 on the rear.

Oh now I remember, the guy put ae86 suspension on his hyundai excel (4g63 motor in it )

yep I'm going to be using the camaro rear KYB AGX shocks for the rear. just hoping the springs would fit for my car... I believe the springs for the cressida was early 80s or late 70s.

Yeah it is AW11 MR2 front and Camaro rears for the shocks/struts but not for the springs. PRetty much anything with a 6.7" rear end will fit on your car just be sure to look at the spring rate and the heigth on them. I beleive a late 70's early 80's cressida had the 6.7" rear end so you should be fine.

You may have quoted yourself but that info is wrong. The MR2's and the AE86's are different setup in the rear. The MR2 uses struts and the AE86 uses shocks so if he used MR2 it would be for the front.

WAIT...i think is important to clear this up.

the AW11 mr2 FRONT ONLY struts (get the whole assembly from junkyard) can be used on the ae86 if you're going to use some TRD or Kg/mm springs that require you cutting down the strut (aw11 kinda of already "cut" for your) BUT THE SPRINGS WONT WORK

Camaro/Mustang 82-01...only the shocks can be used i'm not sure what years on the mustang but its 82-01, 02?? camaro / firebird rear shocks....not the springs

Since i'm sure you want to do some drifting, don't get eibacks, megans or trd USA....do it right once and get yourself some linear springs (trd japan, kg/mm, rsr and others) w. decent spring rates. i find 6.0 & under front /5 & under rear too soft. i'm running 8/6 and find it very acceptable for street driving too!

yup thats it. i run kyb agx's from mr2 fronts and camaro rears. works really good also for its price. i have trd japan springs 8/6 and its really good for drifting and street.

True.. I'm not sure why HPR is looking for other springs when AE86 springs will work with the Camaro/MR2 setup.

Thanks for all your help guys. I first compared the springs to my old stock ones and the outer diameter of the spring matches the stock ones perfectly. Next I tried to test fit it and they sit in the perch perfectly as well.

However, the spring height is a tad too high... so I'm going to try and find the spring height of TRD japan springs and match the ones I have to it. Anyone happen to know off the top of their head what the spring height on TRD japans are?

You guys are probably wondering why I'm going this route. The answer is, the springs I have are custom built by Eibach. The spring height, outer diameter and spring rate are all custom. The outer diameter matches perfectly, spring rate is quite stiff but will match my coilovers up front, only thing to do is now match the spring height.

The springs are no use to anyone at the shop, since the customer backed out on them. So I picked up and plan on using them on my AE86.
