Question '97 3-speed to 5-speed Tranny Swap *info needed*

Hello I am new to the forums but I have a fairly important and urgent question. I have a 1997 Corolla with the 1.6L engine and a 3-Speed Auto tranny (which just died on me). I need to know if I can swap the 3-speed for a 5-speed manual and if so...how much would it cost (tranny and labor)? The engine still runs strong despite 139k miles on it and I love the gas mileage I got with the 3-speed. I really need my Rolla to run again as it is my ONLY means of transportation. If anyone has any information that would be GREAT. Also if anyone knows where I could pick up a cheap 5-speed that will last for like....ohh....another 75k+ miles that would rock my face off. Thanks everyone.

i think just stay w/ the 3 speed or do a complete engine and tranny swap.... cuz its not worth it to change the transmission to manual u'll need lots of parts... cuz my tranny broke down early this august heheh and i was thinkin abt the same thing too... but i end up back w/ 3 speed auto...

Get rid of the busted trannny corollla, and go find yourself a used say 95-96 with a 5 speed, then do some mods down the rode. Would be better than a swap, thats to much of a pain and ya parts galore lie said previous.

It plain words.. you can change it.. but you will need lots of parts. You're probably better off trying the 4spd auto, I believe it might work.
