Help with some info needed

HELLO, I am considering buying a new corolla xrs for my wife. the car has 170 hp 1.8 motor and a6 spd gear box.My question is: what octane is required for this vehicle. Will this xrs need premium fuel or not.The salesman could not give me this info, nor could I find it anywhere.I would also like to know what mpg the car has. Last thing are their any known issues with these xrs corollas, .transmissions, motors etc etc.......any info would be very helpful
thankyou....

I believe the mpg figures (at least for '05) are along the lines of 26 city/34 hwy mpg, using premium fuel (it's a hi performance engine, different from all the other Corollas running regilar gas).
