Fuel Economy Question

I have a 97 Corolla 1.6l 5 spd with 84 000 km (52 195 miles). Its has the 50 litre (13 gallon I believe) tank. I got it on friday, and filled it with gas today. The first tank (the one it came with), lasted about 500 km (310 miles). Is that good? I am curious to hear what other Corolla owners get in regards to fuel economy. Thanks everyone!

You sure its not a 40L tank?? I think I got a 40L tank and I used to get about 500km on a tank when I commuted from Oshawa to Mississauga, about 150km return trip. I would basically gas up on Wednesday nights but if I didn't gas up, I would just have enough to make it there on thursday morning and the light would come up half way.. so yeah 525km or so out of a tank and I wasn't a slow poke either.. I figured if I drove between 110-120km I would probably squeeze another 25km or more out of a tank.

1999 Corolla VE Touring

Just to add, driving around in the suburbs 70% of the time and the highway 30% of the time, I seem to get about 560-600km a tank on a good condition 99 stickshift. On the highway I maintina about 120-140 so im sure it could be a bit better.

I am not sure if the tank was completely empty... the gas guage doesn't seem to accurate. I thought it was a 50 litre tank, but I am really new to toyotas, so there is a good chance that I am mistaken. My friend thought he saw 50 L in the book, but we were probably wrong. Most of my driving was in city areas, so I suppose that my mileage was about avereage. I just wasn't sure, because someone told me I could get like 800 km out of a tank .

Now that you mention it...

The tank in my 99 is a 50 L ... and the 560-600 i get tends to be based on 40L consumption because the light goes on in my car with (assumedly) another 10L in the tank... this is only my 3rd full tank since i bought the thing, so I'll have more accurate #s later on.
