back firing 4ALC

soo yeah, my car has the 4ALC carb motor, and it back fires like crazy on deceloration

ive heard that this can be caused by too rich of a setting, but i think i have mine set lean a touch. my dad thinks its the flowmaster muffler i put on it "its a tunner muffer that does nothing for the car" also my dad is an asshole.

i think its burned valves, any guesses?

I've never had a backfiring problem before, but I've had mad jdm tyte dorifto detonation when accelerating uphill with both previous 4A-LC Corollas I've owned. The Nova has been pretty well-behaved, but it's about as fast as grass growing. Have you tried fiddling with the timing?

What's the mileage on your car, disciple?

the head has 315K miles, which leads me to believe that i have burned valves

Oooo...

Fortunately for you, there were a couple of remanufactured 4A-LCs on ebay for $250, last I looked.

Not that you'd wanna do that, of course...

20V time!

eh the muffler is relatively new, about a year or so, but could it be that the muffler is just not right for the car?
