Just got home with my new 06 Corolla LE. Nice car, but a bittersweet deal. Traded in a 99 SVT Cobra convertible to buy it... bought it new off the showroom floor in '99, but with gas prices skyrocketing (15MPG).....it was the best thing to do for my family
So what kind of real world mileage can I expect from this car? I owned an '85 Corolla SR5 for a few years in college, and I regularly saw ~30MPG in that car, if not higher.
No pics yet, will take them tomorrow when the sun's up
Congats on your new car...I have an 03S(auto)46K.. My first summer of driving I got nearly 40 mpg it really impressed me but by winter it was down to 28-32mpg(a little less highway driving miles)..Dealer told me the drop in mileage was because of the winter formula of the gas...I never hit that good of a gas mileage again as i did the first summer I had the car. It now fluctuates at about 32 mpg....Radd Guy...

IIRC the S has a more powerful engine than the LE, which is why I opted for the LE. Regardless, I'm looking forward to seeing a lot less of gas stations in the near future!

I think you mean the XRS has a more powerful engine the S-CE-LE all have an 130hp-1.8L engine and the XRS has a170hp-1.8L ...Radd Guy....

with all the different vehicles I've been researching I couldn't keep it all straight
I'm going to track mine over the next few months to see how efficient the car is. Only problem living in AZ is that I always have to run the a/c....so I figure if I see at least 35MPG I'll be happy

toyota's mpg figures have proved wuite accurate for us - have seen no lower than 31 mpg in strictly city driving with a/c, and have seen highest of 38.8 mpg on strict highway drive with an '05 S. (Toyota figures are/were 32 city/38 hwy ......not too shabby for a car that's a lot bigger than they used to be
Got my 2006 Corolla S last week - it's an automatic (I know, I know ) - but the sticker said 30 city, 38 hwy.
Do me a favor - take a look at your rear tires from about 10-20 feet back - looks like mine are pigeon-toed...like they're angled towards the center of the car...not sure if it's just an optical illusion or not (I got my wife's opinion and she agreed as well). But the car drives in a straight line. Oh well, gives me an excuse to pay $100-120 for a lifetime alignment at the first oil change I guess!

I notice I have to check my tire pressure about once a month...seems like they don't hold air well. Doesn't matter what car it was....they all needed to be regularly checked.
I see plenty of cars with faded and peeling paint. that's why I keep mine in the garage at all times. Not to mention a parked car can reach over 130 here and more
Once I have the time I plan to use Zaino on my Corolla. Always loved that stuff

Wow. I've got to wonder what we're doing wrong. Our '05 LE 5-speed is only getting about 27MPG in mostly city driving (some highway) with the A/C on all the time. My wife and I are both easy on the gas pedal, we both upshift pretty early, and the tires are all at 30psi. I haven't yet had the opportunity to drive it on a long highway trip to see how it does, but we've been pretty disappointed in the mileage so far, after we were expecting 30+.
I wonder if the gas formulation in our area (Austin) might be hurting the mileage?
