Ok I have a weird question that's been bugging me for a while now. What does 4A-FE stand for anyways? this has been bugging me ever since I got my corolla.
The 4 is the version of the engine, the A is the block, the F means it has an economy tuned head, and the E means it's Electronic fuel injected.
All Toyota engine codes work like that. Some other letters you'll see are Z for supercharged, T for turbocharged, and so on. Also the letter of your stock engine block is always the same as the first letter in the Chassis code, for example, the AE101 has a 4AFE or 7AFE engine
Not really its the block displacement identifier, sort of like 4A = 1.6, 7A = 1.8
so basically the engine model is: Block type - Accessories (fuel injection, turbo, etc)
As for the Model code.
lets say AE92 would be decifered as this, engine type, model, revision.
So an AE92 would be A- engine, E9 model, revision 2.
AE101 would be, A series engine, E10 model, revision 1.
New corolla ZZE121 would be ZZ- series engine, E12 and revision 1.
i think its
A - engine type
E10 - generation
1 - trim level
Hey Jason watz up?
Anyways when you say E10 - Generation, you mean generation for what?
For as long as I remember. E is for Corolla. If you mean E10 - Generation for Corolla then I guess you are right.
For everyone else, I know A is for block its just so much easier to understand if I would put it as an Engine. Say a friend ask you what type of engine you got on your rolla, would it be better to say you got an A type engine or you got an A type block?
Well E9 is the chassis generation and the last number is still the revision..
^- Corolla and 9th generation. Sorry if I didnt make myself clear earlier.
The final number refers to which engine it has, as well as a myriad of other things. For platforms as ubiquitous as the Corolla, it was simply engine and drive type. For cars whose variety is as narrow as the Celsior/Lexus LS400, it's as simple as the suspension type. Here is the complete (as far as I know) E10 breakdown:
