I have an 05 Corolla S and I hate how high the shift knob sits. I was wondering if anyone here knew if the short shifter lowered the height of the knob, and if it was the only option for lowering it. Thanks.
the knob i bought is 2 pieces; a small bottom piece with female threads that is held in place by an o-ring and allen screws, the top just screws into the bottom. It doesn't move at all.
A "short shifter" doesn't imply that your shifter lever is "shorter" it implies that the shifting points will be shorter, the arm is usually just as long as the regular one is but with a different shape and it may feel that the lever is shorter when its not.
Ren, thanks for your help. I know what the implications behind a short shifter are though, but I didn't know if anything out there for Corollas made the height of the arm any shorter, so that's what I needed to know. Adsaba, where did you get your knob? I think that's the option that I want to go with.
The knob I got on my 89 GTS actually goes lower than the OEM knob and it makes it feel like its lower. I'd say look for a knob that goes in deeper than the OEM and it might make a difference.
Remove shift knob. Cut shaft down to desired height. Take cut piece to Home Depot, Lowes, Ace Hardware, etc to find a die of the correct thread. Use the die to thread the shaft. Maybe use a file to clean up the rough areas from the cut. Reinstall shift knob.

ditto

Anyone have any idea if any shop online sells anything like adsaba is talkin about? I would need specific names in order to do a search so if I could get those that would be great.
Most aftermarket ones come with these plastic things with sizes on them that you can swap to screw onto different cars. My Civic was a size 10 and the Corolla as any other Toyota is a size 12 (I know this because my 90 GTS has an IS300 knob and it fits right in) I'm not sure what the number would imply, or if's the same number for all aftermarket knobs, but this is for my Ractive knob.
Yea I have a Ractive knob right now, and finding knobs isn't any trouble at all. It's finding an arm that is lower than the stock one that is the trouble. I found one for 150 bucks which seems to be my best bet however it only lowers the hieght by 2.5''. It's not bad, but I'd like to find something a little lower. Thanks for all the help guys.
