USA Weird Corolla problem!@#

Hey everyone!!! I have a 1981 Corolla that I recently replaced the alternator on...... Today when I was driving it a weird buzzing came from around the glove compartment and the charge light came on!!!!! When I put on the brakes the buzzing would stop and the charge light would go off!!!!!!! Anybody have any ideas why that is and what can be done about it???? Thanks in advance!!!! Dawn

Demons. Find a young priest and an old priest...

Maybe a short somewhere? When you hit the brakes something in that area moved so that it wasn't shorting anymore? Good luck.

Shorted wire seems the likely cause. The buzzer is linked to the warning lights.... my '77 Corona had the buzzer as well... it would buzz for ~5 seconds whenever a warning light would come on, be it the FASTEN SEAT BELTS, CHARGE, OIL PRESSURE or HIGH EXHAUST TEMPERATURE warning light, and then stop. It would also come on when the key was in the ignition with one of the doors open or when the key was turned to on (as those first three lights came on when I did so). I would first check to see that the alternator is in fact charging... I had a rebuilt one that charged just fine but an internal wiring fault would cause the charge light to come on intermittently even though the voltmeter held steady at ~13.8-14.2 volts. Once you've verified that it is charging, then you should start chasing the demonic electrical gremlins!
