side mirror's mirror fell off

I freaked out today when I saw my right side mirror's mirror dangling off when I was about to adjest the mirrors. It turns out that some f*#& with a red car bumped into my mirror. There was red scratch on the door, trim, and mirror but luckily no dents. I somehow forced the mirror back into place by simply pushing the mirror in. It seems to work fine, although I will have to keep a close look on it for a while. I was surprised how simple the mirror was mounted onto the side mirror housing. oh well.. just sharing my story. does anyone know how to remove scratch from the rubber trim near the window?

JK dude.. it wasn't me. I hope you find who did it though and get something out of this.

I just don't understand how people could still sideswipe a car like this.. you be able to see it! bad drivers!

That sucks, I hate assholes. You should probably check the nuts on the inside to see if they should be tightened or if there's anything you could do to secure that mirror on tight.

I believe the mirrors are held in place by three nuts. These nuts thread onto studs molded into the mirror. Chances are these studs were pulled out of the mirror by the collision and you pushed them back in when you put the mirror back in place. This repair won't last long, a carwash or rough train tracks are likely to dislodge the mirror.

Besides replacing the mirror, I would try mixing up a batch of epoxy, pulling the mirror back off, filling the holes with the epoxy, and pushing the mirror back in place.

it was probably an old disoriented drugged up old lady that did that. maybe a distracted cell phone yapper too trying to turn into the parking space with one hand. if you know where and around what time that happened maybe you could ask the store to review their parking lot video and see if you can get their license from the tape so you can charge them for that. same thing with our van we've had idiots scrape both sides of it and bash the fenders in.

luckily the only accident Ive been in wasnt even an accident, just a small scratch on my bumper. I was stopped at the red light wanting to make a right turn, started to go, but then the opposing left turners got the green and I stoped moving to not cut off the left turners and the guy behind me in a F-350 hit me. And when we pull into the lot around the corner, he asks me "Why did I stop"......fucking idiot. luckily it was only 2 small scratches, and so I was like whatever and we just left.
