Its impossible to have "no steering" even if it fails. its still mechanical.

Yes my corolla doesnt have ps either, BUT a PS rack is different than a manual rack, and its gonna be twice as stiff than a Non-ps rack. If you feel like I'm talking BS, well try it, its gonna suck.

i havnt had any problems with mine and ive been driving with it for about a year if not more without any problems... it is hard at first because you are so used to power steering but you get used to it eventually and will be easier the more you drive it... as for looping the lines i havnt heard nor seen this done..

you need to cut the high pressure line where it connects to the pump, then the low pressure line will fit inside of the metal part that's left on the high pressure side.... then clamp it together (after adding fluid)...

i did this on mine when i did a motorswap...... it's stiff, but, oh well... i like it better the way it is

Thats because its a power steering rack. Just find a manual rack, and you're steering will be just fine, but non-powered.

Agreed, the manual racks are quite nice. A power steering rack running no fluid sucks But it is still usable.

How and what is there to check on a PS setup. My '95 doesn't leak a drop of anything, but I was so surprised at 10 years old that I looked up under there when I was draining the coolant and noticed that everything along the steering rack looks a little moist.

Now I don't know jack about power steering, but I'm assuming that's power steering fluid seeping out from somewhered? Anything to do other than just adding PS fluid??

Any harm on just letting it weep a bit?? It's not enough to create a drop on the garage floor, just noticed it's the only thing that's not clean & dry in the engine bay.

TIA

Then I wouldn't worry about it. There's a power steering resevoir in the engine bay, just make sure it's filled up. Use ATF.

OK, will do! Thanks Dr. Tweak.

It's the one piece I use to show people that it's not a Chevy....it's a Toyota!!

The PS reservoir cap appears to be stamped metal with a big "T" on it, then around the circumfrence of the "T", it says.........."TOYODA"

I wonder if that's George Lucas's *real* inspiration for "Yoda?" ........
