7age, or something else? engine swap

hey guys, i really need help on this, i have a 7afe on my 94, and i'm planning to gain some more hp, my question is, which would be the best to engine swap? here's my situatioin, this will not be my "power" car, it's an daily driven, so i dont really want to do the 20v swaps, this leaves me to the 4age which has about 130 hp already (swapping only the heads) and with a turbo and bolt ons, this would be fun to drive, i like the small port better because i'm only going to boost about 5 psi, i'm fine with it. Would this "7age" swap work the way i just explained? how much hp and torque would i except from my 7age? what about swapping in the 4agze?? and taking the supercharger off, how much hp is the 4agze without the supercharger? i dont think i wanna twin charge since i'm also looking for reliability here, which would be the more reliable and last longer? i'm also looking for the most simpliest way to swap, so any feedbacks would be nice, thank u

it doesn't look like you've done enough research on the motors you mentioned. i suggest to do more research and i'm not flaming or anything.

btw, believe it or not your best option would be a 20V ST. it's got enough mid-high power range and really excellent on gas. the other options, you're talking about doesn't make sense to me like TC smallport or 4A-GZE less SC. one thing you didn't mention is a turbocharged 7A-FE. maybe should look into it. goodluck bro!

4AGZE without the supercharger consumes as much gas as a 4AGZE with it. we've tried disengaging the charger and running the car for a week... runs helluvalot slow but still drinks gas like a pubcrawler.

im trying to check into putting 4a-fe pistons in the 7a-fe the piston face is flat rather than dished like the 7a pistons thus increasing the compression ratio!!! don't know if it will work because of a lack of information....

My opinion to him was since he wants to turbo
-Go with bigport 4AGE top end and 7AFE bottom end for a 7AGE which would take more boost and probably be a better motor than using a smallport top end.

- 4AGZE take away SC and turbocharge instead OR keep SC and add turbo for twincharge, the 4AGZE already has the stronger internals making it an awesome motor for what he wants to do.

20v swaps are very expensive. and also unless you plan to do the swaps yourself or knows someone who is gonna do it for hella cheap expect to spend at least 2000 dollars about 1200+ for a decent clip(i stress decent and clip because alot of ebay 20v don't come with some vital parts, ecu, and uncut wiring harness<---this is like finding gold) and about 700 bucks to pay someone to get on it for you and who has the patience to deal with whatever hang-ups may come along. ESPECIALLY WIRING.

20V is more expensive prolly initially. in the long run after he turbocharge any of the motors he mentioned, 20V is still gonna be cheaper and reliable as any OEM toyota engine. when you modify a motor out of the initial design you'll be taking away OEM reliability. i know a TC motor can still be reliable but at what cost?

boosted 16V 4A-GE
- complete smallport/bigport motor
- wiring harness
- turbocharger
- high flow injectors
- intercooler
- engine management
- custom exhaust manifold and downpipe
- custom intake
- misc.

20V ST
- 20V motor
- engine management

boosted 7A-GE
- 4A-GE top / 7A-FE bottom
- custom rods for boost (?)
- engine management or at least a piggyback
- high flow injectors
- a good dyno tuner!

ahhh..im a little confused now, but i wasn't planning on swapping the 20v, because it's gonna be a little hard to get since i live in the USA, but after reading what micro said, i might just consider to turbo the 7afe *sigh* since it'll be more convenient, right? but i'm still not sure if it'll have enough power, is there anybody with a 7age swap who can give me some feedbacks or 7afe turbo?

Cool

i would go with the 20 v. it will make ur car quik (fun speed) It will cost a bit for the engine, instalation, but getting a turbo custom fitted/ installed on your 7a-fe isnt going to be cheaper.
