i am the king of ghetto tuning

so i spent some of today swapping the springs on my ae86.. and some of the stuff i did epitomized "ghetto tuning"
(don't try this at home, kids!)

example 1: frustrated that my dinky 6" hack saw isn't eating through the hard rubber bump stops fast enough, i whip out the jig saw my dad uses for wood working and rip through those bastids!

example 2: i'm having trouble breaking one of the steering knuckle to strut case bolts. Due to space restraints i can't get my breaker bar in there so i'm stuck using a 17" box ended wrench, which isn't all that long (not enough torque).. I can't find a pipe that will fit over the other end of the wrench..... that is, until I spy the OEM exhaust manifold sitting on the garage floor.. let me tell you that at a few feet long, an OEM downpipe makes an awesome cheater bar! (albeit a bit heavy)

and the ultimate, example 3: I was loosening the bolt holding the rear shock to the axle housing when I hear a BIG *crack*.. i undo the bolt the rest of the way and think nothing of it.. until the time comes to bolt everything back together.. I start tightening this bolt and everything seems ok except that it is taking a really long time for this bolt to tighten all the way.. hmmm.. a couple more turns and the head of the bolt just falls off.. doh!
so now the threaded hole in the axle housing is half filled with a busted bolt, and no places are open on thanksgiving monday for me to buy a new bolt or a screw extractor.. i'm fuct.. until i remembered I had a bag of JDM tie wraps!
5 tie wraps and a foot of duct tape later, and my suspension is back "together".. not a long term solution, but i got back to london with it still intact..

sh!t i'm smart.. (or maybe that's "sh!t, i'm f.ucking dumb")

I was wondering why you were looking at your car in the parking lot last night, just figured that it was your muffler or something and it was too cold for me to find out... brrrrr...

hey randy,
you can put a nut on the bolt
tighten it down, and then put another nut on it and tighten it again as much as you can without breaking anything
then
get a deepsocket or a wrench, and put it either over both nuts (deep socket) or on the most inner nut, and then loosen it, it'll come right out.

well the problem is the bolt is already recessed into the hole.. so i have to drill it out or something.. i bought one of those screw extractor things from CT.. hopefully that'll work

Usually those screw extractors do not work to well because they expand inside the hole you drilled in the broken bolt.
It is better to use a left hand drill and start with a small 3/32 or 1/8 inch
drill and work your way up to the inside thread size. Using a left handed drill
the bolt may come out. then you don't have to chip out the broken bolt bits.
If your using right handed drills same procedure except the bolt will not back out on its own.
