91 corolla speakers

k, first off, im dansgts, owner and admin of allgencelica.com. ive got a 86 celica gt-s with a lot of mods to it, but thats beside the point of this thread. my sisters got a 91 corolla dx that needs alot of help...last year for her b-day i got her a head unit and installed it for her, but the car desperatly needs new speakers. front and rear are stock and the rears are blown to shit. my question is what size are the speakers in the front and rear, and what can they be expanded to hold easily, ie not too much cutting or modifying metal parts on the car. i may just get her the stock sizes, but i know that can be streched a lil to hold better speakers, well, mainly something that has a lil bass to it rather than all highs
any help would be appreciated

im not sure if theres a difference between the dx and sr5 as for speakers that is. In my sr5 stock size is 4" i managed to fit 6.5" only cutting i had to do was on the right side but the glove box covers the hole i had to make.

You're lucky, ours came with no back speakers at all. I put some little home theater reference boxes on the back deck with double sided tape, doesnt look too bad, good range of sounds. Also a 10" sub in a box in the trunk helps alot with bass. I just put decent 4"ers in the front, but they really need an amp to be loud enough, seeing as they point at your feet. I'd like to try to get something bigger in there though sometime soon, I'm a fan of bass.

Hey Everyone! I'm totally new at this and have encountered a very simple problem.

The '91 Corolla that I bought had no speakers in it whatsoever! When I removed the rear window panel I had no idea where I could put speakers! From reading around I guess 5 1/4 is the standard for size but where can I put them and how cna I fasten them in? There seems to be no obvious places!

What of the covers that are there? Obviously the speaker cannot fit driectly underneat them do they go elsewhere?

Sorry for my new guy questions!

put the speakers on the panel and use the mounting holes on them to drill the holes into the panel itself, then put some screws in there.

The panel you mean the rear window shelf? Am I supposed to cut a hole in it?

When I remove the shelf it seems the speakers are too high for the shelf to sit on top!

I have Pioneer TS-G1437 (5 1/4" Speakers) if this helps at all?

Tell ya the truth, the (2 door models ex SR-5) have the shelf lower than the 4 dr sedan model. The really only way to accomplish putting speakers in the rear is to make a shelf that'll be sitting on top of the metal shelf or drilling holes for the speaker's magnet and make or buy 2 foam baffles to get that nice crisp bass and such. (mimics a box instead of having the speaker in the open). Also you'll need to make some brackets to suspend the speakers securely than for asthetics, making a custom rear shelf board and carpet it too. I've seen it done with 4 6 1/2" speakers. The project isn't to bad if you like well working on your car.
