sound system

ok this is gonna sound REALLY stupid but i need some advice for this one.

yea, i'd love to have a really nice sound system, seriously, who dosen't?but here's my dilemma. i love the stock head unit. honestly i dont think any head unit will ever blend in and match with your car as well as a stock head unit, after all the head unit was made for your car.

are there any alternatives to really nice sound without getting a new head unit? there's gotta be a way....

i was thinking bout just getting an amp and a capacitator to clean the power to my head unit to everything else, and getting premium sound outputs on my stock headunit... but im not sure how well that'd go. please help me with this, thanks in advance

What car? you should look at Eclipse head units, they seem to match with Toyota interiors pretty good.

first off a cap. will not help you clear up the sound in your car whatsoever unless your running multipul high powered amps like comp. style. what you need is a low frequency crossover to go in between the head unit and the amp. than for the best high frequency i would recomend a set of component speakers just b/c they come with high frequency crossovers but for the best sound i would replace all of the stock speakers but the problem with that is when i did this in my sr5 i had to mount the front set into the door b/c the dash setup sucks ass. the rest is all what brand you want to go with. i went with diamond for my components but a pair of alpine type r's would be sweet or focals or whatever makes you feel better in the pants

bestbuy, circuit city, etc. sell a $20 piece that you splice into the rear speakers for the input, and the output is rca's. I agree with you totally. I kept my stock head unit but with that(i think what crim is talking about) I have an amp and sub in the trunk.

lol...the stock head unit is mass produced folks...it's not something that's "designed" for any specific model

brand and sound are totally dependent on your own particular tastes, and I'm not about to go into any long string of suggestions as to what your system needs without looking at it and listening to it first, like these guys are doing...

if you can, take a listen to some other systems in cars like yours so u can have an idea of what you want out of your sound system and find out what sort of equipment those other cars have and u decide what u want and what u can afford

if the stock headunit has RCA pre-outs then you'll be fine sticking with them. just add (if budget allows) a line driver to increase the output fro 2V to 4 or 6V. then hook up the amps and speakers.

if you don't, you're screwed. you can still wire the amps if they have high-output ins but these lines are soooo prone to noise.

That's my car domain and I think that the head unit I bought and installed blends in REALLY nicely. But it's your call. I thought the 6 cd changer was nice too, but then I realized I didn't need to have 6 cd's at once.
