careful to speed into traffic

Problem with 1998 Corolla....
At stops when accelerator is pushed, 50% of the time it will stutter or lag then resume accel. Already changed plugs and wires, training fluid and filter, engine oil and filter.

had same problem with a different vehicle years ago. have the airflow sensor checked as this was the problem with my case when it happened, there is a good chance that it will be the same for you as your car is over 5 years old.

spent about $200 if i remember it right and done by the dealer. no problems after that.

good luck.

After calling the toyota parts we have found out that the 1998 Corolla doesn't have a airflow sensor. Any other suggestions? P.S. It's starting to stutter when sitting still and in reverse too. Though most of the time it drives well and has no check engine etc lights on.

I would suggest you get a haynes manual if available. I remember reading somewhere a problems such as this could be fuel pump and fuel system related. I think that was only worth a penny, not 2 cents !

yeah, i have a feeling its the fuel pump, my mom's minivan acted the same way as yours and it turned out to be a bad fuel pump since the car is like freaking 15 years old or something, good luck!

I just thought of something, if you are like me and don't have the fancy testing equipment and can't troubleshoot the problem, have toyota dealer troubleshoot and then replace the part yourself, save some $$$ I had to do that with my check engine light. I had already gotten the error codes and replaced 02 sensor, egr valve, but I needed toyota to tell me vsv was shorting out as well. Only then did I buy a non returnable $150 part and now I have no longer have a check engine light on!

Come to think of it, that was about $500 to fix it, only $60 to troubleshoot the vsv. I now know better, thanks to this site, to price shop wholesale on the internet and then get my local dealer to match price.

You may be able to get a free code error check at your local auto zone or checker auto parts, they both have the ob II code reader, worth a try.
