Swapping GT-S cluster into SR5... just plug and play?

I wanted the higher MPH speedo and the higher redline tach, so I bought a GT-S cluster (with 342,000 MILES on it!)

Do I just swap it in, or will the speedo be off?

you'll need to rewire some plugs to have the door light in the new cluster to light up but other than that it just fits right.

Can I not rewire it and just keep the door light on the dash? Or will the cluster do weird things?

yea the speedo, tach, fuel and temp gauge will all work. You don't have to rewire anything to leave the light where it is. I had it in for a bit but then thought why? my engine can't use the redline on that tach. And unlike my sr5 speedo it can't beat the gts speedo's top speed :P

yeah I was trying to change the backlight color but I wasnt able to pull the cluster out enough to unplug it from behind. And in screwing with everything all I accomplished was frustration. I guess some things were never meant to be...
I also learned a lesson that day: If There's Nothing Wrong With It, Don't Screw With It !!!

what are you talking about? it's so easy. there is enough slack and the plugs are so simple you shouldn;t need to see them.

Probably the speedo cable was tight.

speedo cable is attached to the dash not to the gauges like you are thinkin. and the gauges just slide into it. after that it's just 2 plugs in the back which disconnect by pushing the tab then pulling. they don't come forward a whole lot I guess. I suggest lowring your stering wheel, makes it easier.

Oh yah, that's right. I was very happy when I saw that since all my other cars had the speedo cable on the cluster and it was a pain to remove. So yah, probably just hitting the steering wheel or something.
