Also, you should lubricate door/hatch rubber seals with silicone grease every year or so. Just be sure to wipe the excess down afterwards so that your windows don't have tons of grease all over them.
As far as the white grease, there's really no reason to do it every oil change unless you use synthetic oil and change it only once a year.

Well your first mistake if you care about your auto is letting Walmart Auto do anything to your car, There are all kinds of threads out on some of the horror stories about Walmarts auto center...If they even did lube your car (which I doubt) why not call or take a run down and ask them what exactly do they lube on a car like yours...Shifterman you say that Synthetic should only be changed every year meaning like every 15K or so?...I don't let mine go past 8K am I wrong ....Radd Guy

celica2004,
The 1996 Prizm service manual says to lubricate "the parking brake cable guides, underbody contact points and linkage" every 3000 miles or every 6 months. I don't claim to be able to interpret this and I suspect what is done varies widely from shop to shop. I wonder the manual is talking about the guides inside the rear brakes.

I meant to say every year if you drive 12,000 or less. I wouldn't go 15,000 miles without a change, even when using the best synthetic oil. If using petroleum-based oil, a 5000-mile schedule is good.

That sounds right and I wonder how many cheap lube places do that?...I had more then a few used Toyota's that the emergency brake was frozen solid when just a little lube and care over the years would have prevented that....Radd...Guy...

If you have a sunroof, that's a good place to start too, lube the rails if it has one, as well as what others mentioned like hood latch, hinges, trunk latch, and door striker (I think powdered graphite is better).
