I just bought my son this "97" Corolla DX about 2 weeks ago, for his first car to practice driving with his Permit.
My son and I spent a few days buffing and doing general maintence to make this car really look and last a long time. I just installed a K&N air filter, new Kuhmo tires, new ceramic front brake pads, changed oil and oil filter to Mobil One Synthetic and installed a new Duralast battery.
His Corolla had an alarm and I just ordered a "Pedal Jack" which hasn't arrived yet. Well, this morning I went outside and found his car missing from the driveway!
I'm trying to keep positive about the whole situation and hopefully his car will be found. Here are a couple of pictures after many hours of buffing and cleaning. (sorry the pictures are so, large)

call the police and ask them to check any intersection camera footage for it in your area. maybe they'll have the thief recorded on tape. I had a car stolen and found the idiot driving it around town two weeks later and I followed him home. no more joy rides for him.
Really nice looking car. Good luck on catching these stupid people. Keep your eyes open and im sure u've filed reports to police and maybe even your insurance company. It might re-appear on your driveway tomorrow morning...happend to a few buddies of mine in the past.
Thanks for all the kind words and suggestions everyone. Unfortunately, I'm only insured with liability only so, I'm out all the hard earned cash I was able to save throughout the years for this car.
It's a hard earned lesson but, my son's next car will have the pedal jack installed and an alarm with a pager so, my son can hear it in his room.
I live in Sacramento but, I bought the car in Roseville.

Dude.. chances are if he didn't hear it.. then the person who stole had to have a key and remote.. I'd check on whoever sold you the car in case they stole. You would hear an alarm if it was just kids or someone taking it at night. It had to be pros or someone who knew how to work the alarm and had a key.. why would pros want a corolla though? the last owner is probably the only person I'd be suspicious of.
I was thinking the same thing just last night. The previous owner only gave me one alarm remote and he knew exactly where I lived because of the transfer of ownership form I had to fill out.
I don't like to acuse people but, it just sounds fishy. I was thinking if the owner didn't steal it then he must know who did.

In Sacramento ?... well that explains it. I live in Sactown as well and it actually has one of the highest car theft rates in the States. That previous owner things sounds good. Tell the cops about this theory, but as you probably already found out they don't bother much with stolen cars out here.I'll tell you one thing, this story has made me reconsider geting some sort of lock for my 99 rolla.
Well, the Police found the car today and told me it was at the tow yard. It's going to cost me $180 for storage and another $80 to have it towed to my friends body shop.
The thieves took the entire driver door, new battery and two front parking lights.
They also, damaged the ignition and door locks.
