Unhappy problem with my 4af

hi guys,
im currently having problems with my 89 4af, it doesnt go when i hit the accelerator. When i step on it softly it the speed of the car seems to increase normally but when i step on it to about half way or fully the car seems to not go any faster and the revs are increasing really slow and the engine seem to roar. BUT when it reaches to about 3000rpm it seems to drive alil better! like it somehow pulls

any ideas of what's wrong with the car?? would it be the carby ? clutch?
any help would be appreciated!
cheers
dug

It sounds like you have a bad catylitic convertor. Does the car have the problem when hot or cold. Do you hear a noise like air is escaping?

4A-Fs dont generally have cat converters. Some might but not in general. Sounds more like fuel delivery problem.

Of course it will gulp fuel when you put the pedal to the metal. Have you check your fuel filter lately? Maybe it needs to be replace. Or it might be a dirty carb or clogged fuel lines.

I'm not sure but it can be a slipping clutch too. Engine rpm increases but car speed very slow to increase is also a sign of slipping clutch.

sounds like you're running rich, few things to check, the accelerator pump diaphragm, the float height.

the rpm increases slowly, would it still be the clutch slippin? no matter how much i step on the accelerator the rpm increases slowly same as the speed. Yep i have changed the fuel filter, spark plugs, air and oil filter and oil.

how do i clean the carb or the fuel lines??

also how can i check the accelerator pump diaphragm and the float height ??
thanks for all the help

all speeds, but as i said if i gas softly it seems to run normal but when i start to gun it it wont dramatically increase in speed or rpm like before.
And when i soflty gas until the rpm goes above 3000rpm then gun it seems to accelerate better but not like before when the car was fine...

Probably something wrong with the carb. Time to overhaul it.

Dude go grab some carb cleaner, did it for my 4af, has the same problem helped a bit. Just take off the 3 clamps and the wing nut in middle, start the car and spray small amounts into the carb chute. just don't stall it cause car will bog down, but thats what it should do. Although this helped a bit in my car, it may be your only problem. $5 for some carb cleaner and ten minutes of your time might alleviate the problem. I know in my car that the cat is pretty much destroyed so I think that is more the problem. Flash, in my car 4af 89 ae92, definetly has a cat, was told I need to replace for inspection.
