Steering Rack question - PS to Manual

ok i have a 1990 corolla SR-5. Some might know from my other 2 posts my PS rack has a return line busted off right at the rack and i need a new rack.

ive been looking and cant find 1 for less than 200 and i dont have that kinda cash to buy 1.

got a few queations:
1) Will a PS rack from 1 of those early 90's corollas (not the SR5 version, butt he ones that look kinda like a early 90s sentra or whatever, the boxy type) fit on the SR5??

2)if i cant find a PS rack, WHAT manual rack will fit the car? does it have to be off a corolla SR5 or are they any other compatible racks out there??

i really need help as im a honda guy and this is my GF car and im geting really fed up...

TIA all

I doubt you can just fit a rack from an earlier model, there probably are model differences. Changing to a manual rack is one option, but I'd suggest you just ask your girlfriend to pay part of it and get a ps rack.

its not an earlier model, its probably from around the same year, but different model, kinda like the same style as the car in ur sig, not an SR5. as for asking my GF to pay half, we live together and funds are short....

do u know if the SR5 came with the Manual steering option or if any other manual rack that will fit in its place? i have a feeling a manual rack will be cheaper than a PS 1.

also to remove the PS belt, u have to take off the Alternator belt too right? do u know the bolt sizes i need to loosen the bolts? i think its a 14mm for the PS pump 1 and maybe a 12mm for the alternator, but im not sure.

thanks for the relpy Flashmn, u seem to know ur stuff

Cant remember the bolt sizes, but you're gonna have to get a new belt if you take the pump out. I'd suggest visiting a junkyard or calling around to find a PS rack. They shouldnt be that highly priced.
Dunno about USA, but I can find a manual rack for the rolla just by looking under a rock.
